I saw this nonsense passed around last year, too. Lowry had Dragic to back him up, Dragic had Courtney Fortson, Jonny Flynn, and Earl Boykins. How is that a fair comparison?
Did you watch that stretch of games? Everybody else in HOU played markedly worse when Dragic was starting, Scola's dropoff was just the most noticeable. Yeah, Dragic's backups weren't very good at running the team when he sat, but then again, the point is neither was Lowry's backup: He had...Dragic backing him up...and Lowry's backup played more minutes so it was a bigger handicap even if Dragic was slightly better than the other backups.
Phoenix, they went from a stretch PF who is not a complete stiff to a post up PF who can barely jump. They also replaced Grant Hill with Michael Beasley. I don't think it's Dragic's fault that Gortat is soft as a marshmallow when he's not completely spoonfeed a wide open dunk or that Shannon Brown is not in his contract year anymore. He's no Steve Nash, but neither are 85% of the PG's in the NBA.
Grant Hill was injured and playing extremely poorly his last year in PHO. Couldn't defend, either. Shannon Brown is still Shannon Brown, okay but nothing special. So now Frye is your .500 -> competing for worst record in the NBA difference maker? Don't make me laugh. None of your excuses are even remotely compelling. I didn't expect Dragic to be Nash. If Dragic was Nash, PHO would be around .500 right now instead of competing for the worst record in the NBA. Dragic is much worse than Nash running a team, which makes Dragic...not one of the better PGs in the league right now.

Is that why Scola's numbers across the board not only stayed the same, but both his ppg (+0.7) and his FG% (+ 0.006) were higher than his season avg when Lowry was out? Keep in mind that Kevin Martin got injured just a couple games after Lowry, so Courtney Lee also upped his averages. So did Chandler Parsons and Chase Budinger. Both Camby and Dalembert had a better FG%, too.
You keep saying they played worse with Dragic, but somehow the numbers seem to disagree with you. Maybe, just maybe, they were worse because they were missing two players who played the most minutes for them before they got injured.

"If I take the qualifying offer and become an [unrestricted] free agent there is no way I am coming back," Jennings told Yahoo! Sports on Friday after practice. "There is no way."
Jennings turned down a four-year, $40 million offer before the season.
Jennings would make $4.5 million if he plays the 13-14 NBA season under the qualifying offer.

Rule of thumb -- when somebody discusses leaving a team in any way, the very moment they first raise the possibility, they're not going to stay there.
It's like considering a divorce. The consideration is the final nail in the coffin.
Agree with sham that these guys are looking at some different numbers than the real ones. The field for them is narrow. Who wants Iguodala? Not that many teams really. And the ones that would probably don't have the cash.
Brandon and JR ... depends on the playoffs. But the pool is pretty small. And he may need Milwaukee's help to get where he wants to go (big market) ... so he should probably be kissing their ass.

That's fine but at some point, his record is his record. He has to win something. Same goes for Rubio.
For however flawed Brandon is, he'll be in the playoffs again. Same with Lin (who was the single biggest reason the Knicks qualified even though he didn't play).

Re: Around the nba part 6
His record? I thought the team was playing. It's really unfair to point at the record and say they don't win more with a certain player when you know that they're missing a couple of starters.
And you can't really compare teams from the West with teams from the East. That Rockets team had a winning record against eastern teams last year, they'd be in the playoffs if they played the East. Wolves have a .423% against eastern teams this season, .326% against western teams. Bucks never make the playoffs in the West either.

Teams have records and their best players have a lot to do with those records, whether good or bad.

jennings wont. iggy might...he'll at least get a longer contract that will pay him more in the long run -- like what richard jefferson did when he opted out. more years / more money.

Iggy is going to get paid by someone and he's smart to opt out. Check the FA class next year...

Does this line of thinking apply to JR Smiff?

Yeah, there are a lot of factors that are involved when trying to evaluate a player, but surely winning is one of the more significant ones right? Lin is a good example, would Linsanity have been a major phenomenon if the knicks had lost a bunch of those games early on? Of course there are various situations and numerous players are involved, but I think having wins to go along with a player's success makes for a much stronger case if you want to argue that a player is good.

I think he might be able to make 20-25 million on a new contract that lasts 4 or 5 years...can't see him banking much more than that, though I guess this FA class is pretty weak and he has a better reputation than most. Still, he's nuts.

The new CBA makes it hard to answer...I don't think anyone's getting paid old school numbers, Smith and Andre included. Iguodala would make more than JR imho, and I have him at around 5 or 6 million a year...so if you give JR less, he's right around the Knicks' max available offer for him (4.4). I could be wishful here.

Right now... going off of this years production.. the chance for a Smith to start.. Age.. etc.. I'm leaning towards Smith being offered more.. but Smith is unpredictable in his thought process.. he might do something stupid like turn down more money to play elsewhere... You rarely see an athlete turn down more money so it's going to be an interesting story line to pay attention to nonetheless.

Re: Around the nba part 6
I could see Smith being offered more but not a tremendous amount...so he might be willing to take the pay cut. I'm crossing my fingers tbh and if he walks, I hold the consolation of using our resources to bring back K-Mart who has been a revelation. Even though he's only been around a couple of weeks, I'm figuring that we walk away with one of the two but not both.

I think Jr's contract sitch is a scary one myself. I don't think you deserve backlash for that at all.
