Either stars or 1 year deals..not sure why it’s so confusing..no Ball, no Schroeder, no Lowry, etc..it’s not wake up Leon..it’s obviously part of their plan..you might not like the plan which I get, but it’s part of it..they aren’t signing anyone long term..now if they sign a Fournier etc, then I will admit I’m wrong and then have zero clue what their plan is, you don’t save every dime in cap space to sign Fournier Ball etc

according to Kevin Pelton (ESPN), Lonzo is the 3rd best FA this offseason w/ a projected WAR of 21.2 over the course of his contract

I’m assuming we won’t get a superstar so I’d be ecstatic if we just got him.

I did mind punting on #19 b/c I thought Keon Johnson was a high-level talent that has all-star potential (similar to Jaylen Brown to me)

didn't mind the Rokas pick b/c he could be useful in a future trade, esp. if he boosts his stock playing for Barcelona

I liked getting Grimes and McBride. I'm confident that both will be solid pro's....just think that w/ 2 1sts they should've capitalized and gone upside AND safe

my issue tho is that w/ the way they've been acting like a team that thinks its a contender....we're not and getting talent still needs to be priority #1. this FO is star hunting in FA and trades again, but since none are available, they should've treated the draft like an opportunity to be aggressive

I'm already tired of people crying over what Keon Johnson might become. Sorry to unload on you here.

They had a good draft. They maintained (punting 19) the ability and improved on it - slightly - to make trades in the future (adding Rokas and that Detroit 2nd rounder)

In and of itself, that was fine.

Now they need to win the FA/trade period.
Not only because we'd like to see the Knicks actually get better, but just about to tread water, for f*cks sake.
That's the price of 1 year deals.

The team wasn't all that great and now they have to replace rotation spots starting 1, starting 3, backup 1, backup 2 and backup 5
And try to get better while doing it.

Agree to disagree on the draft. I don't see how they improved on #19....they traded it for a heavily protected 1st

the Rokas trade was different, it was #32 for #34 and #36, which I thought was incredible value....kudos to the Knicks FO: got the guy they probably would've taken at 32 + picked a nice draft and stash player who can be useful in trades

They added 2 solid players, but I don't see as much upside w/ those guys as I did (or most analysts) w/ Keon or Jalen. they had the potential to get 1 of those guys AND Grimes and McBride

....yet they decided they wanted additional cap flexibility. and for what? DeRozan and Schroder?

They didn't improve on 19. They achieved the ability to give it to a team a cost free asset, which they couldn't do if they drafted someone.

I think they got similar players where they drafted as 19 and 21.
This all comes down to choosing to be upset that the Knicks didn't draft Kai Jones or Keon Johnson, as if we have some crystal ball they will be awesome.
Also, I could see wanting 3 shots at 19,21,32, instead of two shots at 25, 36 and a stash at 34, but oh well.

But to say these moves were made solely with 2021 cap space in mind is disingenuous. Or people are being a little thick.

Hey, you want the Knicks to take shots on prospects. The Knicks apparently like drafting the same players you do, but prefer the ability to be able to trade a pick in the future to taking a shot on a prospect. Because there is no way that 3 million in cap space was that crucial IF the plan is only about Schroeder level guys. They could do that with 50 million and get two of them.

So, the plan is something else, and I think it's a mix between "get some decent cost controlled youth" - Grimes and McBride but also accumulate more assets and flexibility for a trade now or in the future.

TBD if it works out more positive or negative.

I think Schroeder is inevitable. For whatever reason knicks don’t seem interested in ball. I think it’s pretty clear he’s the better player and higher potential but haven’t seen anything about Knicks liking lonzo.

Not a fan but As long as we are not inking Schroeder to 4 years 80+ I am ok.

I'm beginning to think our next PG will most likely come via trade. Whether it is Lillard, Walker, SGA, Sexton, Murray or my dark horse Colby White. FA will be all about getting our starting SF and adding role players that can compliment this team.

Look at Kawhi though:

Westbrook had become a father of three the previous November, and while he’d made a home and carved a Hall of Fame legacy in Oklahoma City, the chance to live and play in Los Angeles, where grandparents and his large extended family and friends could visit every day, held deep appeal.

Teaming up with Leonard would be the fastest way there, so he placed the call, according to multiple sources. But Leonard didn’t just take the call as one native son of Los Angeles to another, ponder it and file it away.

He used it.

According to multiple sources, Leonard then called Westbrook’s teammate in Oklahoma City, Paul George, and told him he’d rather team up with him on a homecoming.

George had always longed to play in front of his family as well but had formed a close bond with Westbrook in their two seasons together in Oklahoma City and was content to stay.

Leonard’s call upended all of that, though.

I'm good with Fournier. Big improvement over Bullock as a starter imo. Can space the floor but isn't a 1 dimensional player. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and can make plays for others. He will come in every night and do his job and play his role. Good start if this is indeed true.
