The first game was the aberration. I remember the 71-72 Knicks blowing out the Lakers in game 1, only to lose the next four. Celtics are good but they're not ready to defeat the Warriors in a seven-game series.

Question. Were the Knicks good enough to win another title in that 69-70 to 73-74 period?

The '71-'72 Knicks had Jerry Lucas at center, with Willis nursing his chronic knee issues (and not playing much). Had Willis been healthy...sure.

Also, there was no 3 point shot at that point but Lucas was a terrific long-range shooter. So had there been a three-point shot in that era, Lucas might have turned Wilt into a defensive liability. But as it was, Lucas couldn't handle Wilt down low over an extended series.

We won the 2nd championship with Willis temporarily enjoying a period of health in '72-'73 - but that period didn't last long. If memory serves me, he was suffering knee issues again early in the next season. And then the John Gianelli era commenced...

Considering the significance of the game and one of the top NBA moments of all time, that’s pretty cheap honestly for it. I wonder how known it was when this jersey was up for auction cause this fan base has some super high rollers that would have paid much more for that. This is the grail of all grails of Knick Memorabilia that can ever exist outside of the Jersey he wore that night.
