You are right. I can make my point without getting into insults.

You are also right in that they are many factors that make up a incident like Newtown. But it's statistically proven that the the number of guns in a society plays a large role in the amount of gun violence.

And really I'm not someone who wants to take away all the guns. Far from it. And the best argument is the one about it's not really the cause and there are technical issues with what do you consider semi-automatic and dressing up hunting rifles and all that.

But what blows my mind is the idea that we need guns to protect us from tyranny. People like Alex Jones are paranoid lunatics. I remember watching something years back of him saying that the government is putting fluoride in the water to make us dumb. I'm not calling everyone in here a paranoid lunatic but if you come here and say Alex Jones is absolutely right and we need to be ready for armageddon because it's coming then you should not own a firearm of any variety.

One thing I believe is that there needs to be stricter gun controls Gun show loop holes need to be closed, and rifles and shot guns need to have the same kind of background checks that handguns require. I know their is a correlation between gun violence and the ability to own guns, that is undeniable. I just don't believe it's the causation. Even though they don't have guns, would you be excited to a see a group of rioting soccer fans coming toward you in England or something? You're still going to die either way.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and I think weird alarmists like Alex Jones are a poor representation of a rational discussion. I don't believe that we are a few years away from a big fascist take over. I understand that right now everything is fine. What I can't predict is what happens in the future, and that is what bugs me about disarming people in general. The founding fathers drew their beliefs from John Locke, a guy that died nearly 100 years before the Federalist papers, and Constitution. So by the standards of some people in this discussion his beliefs were antiquated and didn't apply. Yet, they are 300 years old now and still apply.

The bottom line is that there are instances where people are fighting a great power in the past, and in the present. The right to revolt is necessary to keep the government honest and sometimes peaceful demonstration works, and other times it doesn't.

I missed this post. This has been the most logical post from the opposing side I see and I don't have much gripe with it.

Just look at Syria. Sometimes a couple of AK47's and a little grit can bring a Kingdom to it's KNEES.

This is really a separate discussion but... Syria is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The "rebels" are not without suppliers. On top of that Syria is the last client state of the Soviet Union (now Russia) in the region so they have a benefactor in them.

The point being is that Syria is as about as different from the US as you can get.

it's really just a proxy war between Iran and the US/Israel. The American need Syria weakened so Iran loses another central ally. They want to tighten the noose around Iran so they can begin their invasion. Don't be fooled the Americans and Israeli's are the main one's staging this Syrian conflict.

OK. So we are in more agreement then disagreement. But the future is going to be so widely different from the present so much so that I have a very hard time believing that people a hundred years from now will look at guns as anything but a barbarian relic. I think as we become more intelligent as a "human race" our need for weapons will greatly diminish. If not then there really is no hope because it's easy to see weapons systems that will be created that will completely make guns irrelevant. We already see how powerful drones are. Imagine drones that are swarms of trillions of nano bots working in a formation powered by artificial intelligence? They use to say that if you put the dividing point between the first and second half of all accumulated human knowledge that point would be in the 1970s. That trend is only accelerating and the future really is going to be science fiction (I believe in a very good way).

Yeah, the future might be crazy in terms of military tech and stuff. But my whole point is the precedent that disarming everyone would set. Assault rifles and stuff are just our current inception of things. But I think the deeper repercussions in the future could end up being something like a complete dependence on government and the conditioning of people to not rise against authority.

The thing is I can respect johnnywishbone even though I pretty much strongly disagree with his posts. His posts are well thought out and have substance, and don't use emoticons in every damn post. I hope one day you and shumpstreet as well can graduate to speak like adults and gain respect as people that possess intelligence.

I respond that way to your posts and the others because they are full of lol. GUYS GUYS SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN SO LETS KEEP OUR GUNS.

E86 just made a really good post supporting your stance and it didn't have tons of lol in it so I responded accordingly.

I really like you, seriously! Your fighting for our rights to be taken from us to bare arms because your scared of getting shot by a crazed gun man. I understand and I'm sorry it scares you so much. I think if you can find people like you and go to those class's you can live a better life my friend. Here are some links I hope help you in your struggles with gun-phobia. What might happen is another school shooting. Why change the law, especially a second amendment right, for something that might happen. School shooting happen maybe once every few years. Considering how many schools there are nationwide, I'd say mass school shootings happen at a rare occurrence as well.

As for weather manipulation, go Google HAARP. Take caution though because it involves knowledge of science and understanding, skills you likely lack.

Also if Alex Jones was trying to argue against gun control, he needs a new script. Can’t see how most sane people would take time to sift through all of his rants and yelling to decipher what his point is. He just sounds loud, and angry, combine that with the fact he’s advocating for more guns and he sounds scary…

it's not "just because you disagree with me". It's your way of trying to beat around the bush when I'm pretty aware you are not familiar with most of the darkside of American History. Not only that, but I can sense resistance in the tone of your messages and thus feel it unnecessary to explain anything to you. I see no point in trying to convince someone so tunnel minded to focus on what he has been fed his whole life and unwilling to see things for what they are.

So you came to that conclusion based on my 2 sentence response saying I disagree with you?? Not sure if serius… My comment was and I qoute..

"Pretty much disagree with every thing you said. Dood sounds so loud and irrational It’s hard to even follow his logic. I’m all in favor of pursuing the mental health aspect of this, starting with Alex Jones first..” What part of that comment caused you to come to such broad conclusions about me??

I’ll wait right here while you dig really deep into your “enlightened” mind to figure out the answer to that…

Seeing as I have an engineering degree I think i will be able to deal with reading of sciences especially math and physics really well. And if I don't get it I have a friend in NYU who is knee deep in physics as we speak. I'll be ok but thanks for the worry.

We change the law because without guns you don't get murders than happen with guns pretty simple.

If I can guarantee that another school shooting doesn't happen then I am all for it.

Btw there is a difference between me saying "hey a school shooting JUST happened" so lets make sure it doesn't happen again. To "hey a US dictatorship has never happen in the history of the US but it MIGHT happen so lets keep our guns". I doubt you can see the difference.

A simple question here. If we eradicate guns from the hands of citizens would there be no more gun murders committed by citizens yes or no?

He also doesn’t claim to be a mentalist than knows the inner workings of your thought process based on 2 sentences saying you disagree with him.. Ie he’s rational and willing to debate issues without hurling insults from jumpstreet.. Still waiting for you to enlighten me on how you came to such a widespread conclusion based on 2 sentences but I understand your “enlightened mind is vast and it must take much time and many resources to recover such information, sooo I’ll just let it go...

So go read about HAARP, engineer. You're the one pushing the notion of a dictatorship. We never mentioned it. We just distrust government altogether. I'm scared of government as it is currently constructed right now. I don't own guns but if the need arises to protect myself I would definitely try to obtain one.
