What we could've done in the offseason:

Step 1: signed Fred VanVleet
Step 2: draft Haliburton at 8, Bane at 25, and Quick at 33
In a world where VanVleet wants to sign with us, I'll assume Quick is still there at 33
Step 3: Roll into the season with

VanVleet/Quick
Haliburton/Bane
RJ/Bullock
Randle/Knox
Mitch/Noel

Easily top 6 team in the East, maybe top 4. Fixes pretty much our biggest problems, that of playmaking, scoring, and shooting from the backcourt

I know there's no way we would have done this, especially since in this scenario we're drafting 3 guards after signing one to a big deal, but this is something that was possible to do, with the only question being if Quick makes it to 33, which I think there's a good chance he would have.

That team would not only be so much more fun to watch, but solidly in the playoff picture as well and with a higher upside.

I believe we could've gotten FVV for an overpay, although we don't know how far the Raptors were willing to go. Still, you don't miss out on opportunities to sign a proven winner who's still relatively young at your biggest position of need, especially when no major free agent is signing with us for the foreseeable future.

It's crazy how I'd trust a few people on message boards to run the team more than people getting paid millions of dollars for this job.

Raps wouldn’t have overpaid cause they were in the Giannis sweepstakes at the time but I seriously think FVV only wanted to come here if we went past 26 mill or something

And I'd be fine with that.

That move would've at least brought us back to the minimum level of competence that we should expect.

Build for 4 years, then re-adjust as FVV's contract expires and our young players start getting extensions.
