Re: Knicks - Celtics PG: Do we need Woody back?
We should finish up seeing what we have with Obi and Knox because that also informs how tradeable Randle is. Knox has shown some strides. He's got a shot to work well with RJ.
I have no faith though. They'll end up keeping Randle and pretending he's a player he really is not.

Sadly it's only a little over 4 million (it's the underspend of 90% of the cap, not of the whole of the cap).

Do you really think a team would give us a Top 10 pick for Randle?
Vuc just landed a potential top 10 pick and Randle is 4 years younger
Vuc is a much more proven player. He is playing at a high level for several consecutive years.
Randle was a negative contract player for under 20M contract past season. At least, teams view him as a difficult player to fit in a team.
Vuc is locked until 2023. Randle can walk next year.
I am not sure if it was a good deal for the Bulls. It appeared more a desperation move. You cant take bad deals as referential. Besides, If Chicago's pick is a Top10 this season, definitely it was not a good deal.
Vuc is more proven, but Randle has the age factor and theoretically is entering his prime, while Vuc is exiting it
I think any team acquiring Randle would also obtain his bird-rights and thus be able to pay him more than anyone else, so that mitigates the risk of losing him as a FA
I don't mind the deal for the Bulls b/c they protected the pick top 4. they clearly want to win ASAP and Vuc definitely helps more than a mid/late-lotto pick (rn that would be 9), while still retaining the ability to land one of the true difference makers this draft

What will everyone say when we sign Payton yet again this offseason?

Leon Rose looking weak af right now. We were 4th seed and we didn’t make a move to get over the hump. Front office malpractice!
We knew we only beat bad teams and needed point guard help. Still didn’t do anything. Now we got that extra money just sitting around.
Leon Rose on the clock...

Hmm. This is not a guarantee...
Thibs is seeing some sense and playing Rose out. All of Payton's 2nd half minutes are evaporating.
I think they chase Lonzo Ball hard and see where that goes.

if I'm Leon, I'm calling Thibs into my office and mandating he play Knox, Frank, Obi, and IQ more
not only would we get a chance to see what the young kids can do w/ extended minutes, but it would also improve our potential lotto odds

It could actually help us win games. Take Payton out and we probably win this one

it kinda materialized in getting AD. Lonzo and BI were both 2nd overall picks and the other key piece of the deal was trading NO the #4 pick (which they got despite only a 9.4% chance at top 4)

Mike Woodson is an awful coach. He made Iso-Joe famous.. then got fired.. then he stole D'antoni's offensive playbook. He's a bum who is going to suck at Indiana U.

Knox is probably done here. It’s year 3 and he’s getting DNPs. I actually thought he showed a couple flashes as he upped his fg% and was shooting 41% from 3 and playing a bit smarter but whatever. this is a win now vet heavy playoff team I guess. Good luck to him and Frank in future endeavors

I agree, but that's not what's going to happen. The Knicks are on schedule to probably finish in one of the play-in spots - likely to be 9th or 10th after the regular season, and unless and until that becomes impossible they will be trying to win with mediocre vets.
