Got his jersey retired last night. I get what you saying tho, he seemed to be a numbers chaser early in his career.
He’s more Ricky Davis

Have to see him off screens more. But his set catch and shoot is there. Will he be as solid a defender?Clyde_Style wrote:So what do you guys think?
Does Grimes have Klay potential?
It looks like it

Def wanna check those Grimes highlights though, he deserves a rotation spot, no?

Thibs in post game already trying to run by the question on whether Grimes will play more.

Fire this dude man he’s out of touch. Already talking about this stay ready garbage.
Iq not ready, play the man more wtf .
I mean one game doesn’t mean anything or we’d all be in love with Fournier. Hell, Randle had an entire elite season and everyone already switched on him again. One game isn’t meaningless but it doesn’t mean much.
His form and he can shoot with a hand in his face effortlessly WITH confidence. It means everything.

He's got a nice stroke and his movements on offense are smooth but he lacks foot speed and lateral movement to be the defender Klay Thompson was/is.

Yeah first career start scoring 27 on high efficiency against the world champs at Madison square garden means nothing. Beating Knicks record for points and 3s in first career start means nothing.
thebuzzardman wrote:Yup. It's why I used it. I think the FO is very close to, or has already decided that Mitch's talent doesn't exceed whatever knucklehead factor he brings, and he kind of does.
He's history. Hope they get a pick for him on the way out.
Hopefully that doesn't lead to them retaining Noel.
Please God, add Turner to the Knicks. I promise I'll wait 30 games before bashing him.
You guys love them role players.Gravy wrote:FO better at drafting than signing players

Let me get out of the way that none of the moves or suggestions I make will be taken up by the Knicks, their coach, or their FO.
The team is going nowhere. This is no one trade that's going to fix this mess. There are too players with too many issues across too many positions to find a combination that makes up an actual good team.
There's a pretty strong consensus it was a mistake to sign Randle and build the team around him.
There are mixed feelings about RJ's abilities.
Everyone hates Evan.
Everyone but Shamms thinks the C position is a mess and that's only because he still likes Mitch for some odd reason. Then again, he's a Knick fan, so logic isn't any of our strong suits
The Knicks have player redundancies where maybe a couple of trades clear some space on the roster for the youth, get in some SLIGHTLY better players etc.
Randle - I'd trade Randle if I could, but I just don't see it happening. However, Randle and the team might benefit from a C with actual offensive ability. I'd trade:
Kemba, Noel (or Mitch), Knox, A #1 pick for Turner.
Then I'd run a 3 big rotation of Randle, Turner, Obi. F*ck a Noel or Mitch.
The Knicks don't need to carry THREE offensive liability C's in Mitch, Noel and Sims. I'd trade Noel because he flat out sucks. He gets bodied, can't hold onto the ball, is a poor rebounder. He's literally out there taking up space. Mitch is no better but at least he's not bodied as easily. They could trade both for all I care.
Trade Burks or Fournier. Fournier will be hard to move. So it's probably Burks. Grimes has just rendered at least one, if not both, redundant. Move Burks to a contender. It would be nice if Burks could be moved for a competent backup PG but that feels unlikely. Trade Burks to a contender for a future #1, like 4 years away or one of their spares. Make Pepe LePew the 6th man. Maybe if he has the ball in his hands with the 2nd unit more, he won't so completely suck the big baguette
Other players who could be dealt in the right situation: IQ, RJ. I wouldn't move RJ unless it's for a good player, but then it would be a multiple picks, young guy situation and it would have to be a PG or wing coming back and no, Dame isn't the answer. Look, Dame is good, it would get Randle a PG and with Randle\Turner\Dame\Grimes\? that would be ok.
Knicks don't need to be ok.
Knicks need to acknowledge that this team is a few years away from being even a little good.
This offseason set them back this year, next year and who knows how long.
Knicks need to try and get younger, move the vets without taking back too much salary, and field enough decent young guys that maybe a star is enticed, or just hope to get lucky in the draft.
Rose/McBride
Grimes/IQ
RJ/Fournier
Randle/Obi
Turner/Randle
Or, super duper fantasy edition:
Simmons/McBride
Grimes/Fournier (since stuck with him)
RJ/Knox
Obi\That G League guy
Turner\Sims
Where Randle\Burks\Kemba\Noel \Taj\picks went out for Simmons and Turner
Rose went for a pick
Thibs fired
Johnny Bryant promoted, Woodson brought back. lol.
If I'm the Knicks, I approach it from one of two perspectives.
Either I trade away all the inefficient players on the roster while they're still (hopefully) tradeable, and rebuild through the draft and through trades. Or I package a few of these guys and some other assets for Dame hoping that putting Randle in a lesser role unlocks the offense. I much prefer the first way tbh.
Avenue 1 (the blow-it-up trade)
Randle to Sacramento for Harrison Barnes and Tyrese Haliburton (operating under the assumption that it's the Kings)
RJ to Indiana with Noel for Turner (or to Charlotte for PJ Washington and James Bouknight)
Fournier to Dallas for Bullock and WCS
Rose
Haliburton
Barnes
Toppin
Turner
With IQ, Burks, Bullock, Mitch coming off the bench.
That'd be a fun line-up with some upside and flexibility moving forward. Obi can set screen and be the roll man and the paint isn't crowded because of Turner. Knicks get a guard with some skills.
Avenue 2 (the go all-in trade)
Trade RJ, Obi, Fournier, Kemba, Dallas 1st, Charlotte 1st, 2 firsts for Dame.
Trade Noel, Mitch, Grimes, 1 first for Turner.
Then you can play
Dame
Burks
Lord Knows
Randle
Turner
With Rose and IQ still leading the second unit.
