Knicks should trade Randle, Brunson, Donte, Hart (peak value) and Mitch, let OG and iHart walk, build through the draft, because nothing is more fun than watching young players develop.

Timing is not an issue.
Because if we make a trade aggregating salary before re-signing IHart and OG, we will be hard-capped in the second apron.
In any scenario, we can not surpass the second apron if we plan to aggregate salaries in a trade.
So you're saying that even if we tell iHart and OG to hold off on signing extensions and Bojan moving his deadline date.. we can't fit the MLE? I figured that's what he meant by timing issue. I think we all know that we will be hitting the aprons once we get OG and iHart to sign extensions.
Yes.
We get hard capped on the first apron IF we use the MLE or the BAE or getting more money in a trade and hard capped in the second apron if we are aggreegating salary in a trade or using the tax MLE.
Wow. I thought we could sign an MLE but still have bird rights on OG and iHart to give them extensions.

HopelessKnick wrote:My feeling, from reading everything Knick related along with trade rumors etc. you can roughly stick by the following:
1. If the Knicks trade for a non-star player but starter or significant bench player they will likely use Bojan and picks. As a conclusion, the incoming contract would have to be in the 15mill-23mill. range approximately I believe (Bojan makes 19mill.).
2. If the opportunity for a star trade comes up, meaning the incoming contract would be at least 30mill.+ but more likely 40mill.+ then that incoming guy must be so good that the Knicks would be willing to give up Randle, or even Randle and Mitch. This is assuming--which most of us do--that Brunson, DD, Hart, OG and most likely Hartenstein are the 5 guys the FO prioritizes to stay here. Possibly Deuce too.
I personally think scenario one is much more likely. With the new CBA I believe the Knicks are looking at what impact player the can get that makes around 20mill. a year using Bojan and picks or possibly Mitch and picks.
I agree with your logic.....
Right now the guys at the forefront who might be available with the sub 40M dollar salaries:
Good salary/young:
1-Markenen 1yr/18.6M (super low contract for a 23 pt scoring big/ does this make Randle more expendable via another trade?)
2-DeJounte 3 years / approx 24M average per year (this is an amazing contract considering he is also a 20+ player who is 'cost' controlled over the next 3 years/ do Knicks like the fit with Brunson in terms of relieving pressure of of him and providing a combo with lenght in backcourt?)
3- Donovan Mitchell 1 year/33 M - another below 40M contract that we know wants to play here. Probably the most dynamic scorer of the below 40M group. Do Knicks think he fits with Brunson?
4- Bridges 2 years/24M average per year - We know the deal with him not the most dynamic scorer but probably best fit of the bunch for mutliple reasons/ doubtful Nets trade him to Knicks but would a significant overpay get it done?
The higher salary guys.....it would be crazy to touch any of them that are older and/or too injury prone (ex. George, Embiid, possibly KAT , Ingram, Zion, LaVine)
Higher salary guys who are good enough , young enough and arguably durable enough to trade Randle if they became available:
-Giannis
-Booker
-Who else?
I kinda feel like the priority within all this calculus is to also move Bojan , Mitchell Robinson (possibly) and retain I-Hart who is less injury prone and more reliable offensively.

We keep the bird's rights of these players after giving the MLE. But we can not spend more than 178M during all season.

Re: More Trades and Transactions Ideas Thread
The only reason I can see Utah being open to trading Markkanen is because the top of this next draft looks very good and their pick is only top 10 protected. They need to be bad to keep it. Flagg and Bailey are both legit and Flagg will definitely get lots of love in Utah lol...
That being said I'm not sure Markkanen is definitively an upgrade over Julius. And he's never played a playoff game in his life. It's just hard to give up the kind of package you need to give up to get someone who your not sure about as a playoff performer.

At 18M you could technically trade for him WHILE keeping Julius if you believe that Markkanen can give you some quality minutes at the 5 and/or the 3.
Otherwise you trade Randle in another trade that nets you a bigger piece.

Meanwhile on other rumors....
-Detroit looks like it is blowing it up. They have hired new management and now are looking into all the coaching staff. Does this make guys like Cade and/or Jayden available?
-LA is supposedly going hard after Danny Hurley. If that happens is that to start a team from the ground up or make another run with the aging core? If it is to start from the ground up AD and/or LeBron probably become available.

We already have 2 starting forwards. So no Lauri unless we are trading Randle.

I don’t want egomaniac cornball herb LeBron or the Glass King Anthony Davis. Having a team of Davis, OG and Mitch is an auto L and the ultimate disaster recipe.
Detroit doesn’t want to keep tanking. They want to do what the Rockets did. I assume they’ll throw money at veterans this summer to field a competitive roster.

Re: More Trades and Transactions Ideas Thread
I can't see Detroit trading Cade or Ivey for anything that isn't a veteran upgrade for them which obviously doesn't fit what the Knicks are looking for in a trade.
My guess is that they'll look to consolidate some of the bigs on their roster and build around Cade/Ivey/Grimes/Thompson/Duren. In theory that's a nice core who could eventually turn into something sustainably good with an upgrade or 2.
I could see Isaiah Stewart becoming available and the Knicks have had interest in the past but, I don't think he really moves the needle at all.
I do worry that they are the kind of team that gets stupid with Hartenstein

Isiah Stewart would be a good role player to acquire. Fits our style perfectly.

I think the Lakers are probably NOT tearing it down. They almost never do that in LA. If anything they'll try hard to add another piece like Murray or Mitchell.
Detroit I would say there might be a bit of a chance they could trade one of Ivey or Cade and look for a better fitting piece depedning on who they hire and his thoughts on the overall current roster.
