He takes the end of the quarter heave every game. His jumper is fine

Maybe you’re right. I’d hope so.

His career stats should carry more weight than a thread made after 5 preseason games on a new team.
I mean, talk about sample size and overreacting. This board is taking it to new heights this year! We have heard complaints/worries about EVERYONE in the starting 5 from day one. Brunson/Mikal/Hart/KAT have all gotten some smoke. Even OG was getting smoke for falling down a lot!
Myself/Context and a couple of other posters were trying to calm everyone down but, it took a while and it was time consuming.

Brunson/Mikal/Hart/KAT have all gotten some smoke. Even OG was getting smoke for falling down a lot!Patience was surely lacking around here. 22 games in and here we are looking like the best team we have seen since the 70's championship teams. Two weeks ago the sky was falling.

That still doesn’t mean his shot has been convincing. I’m far from afraid, I’m enjoying this.

Well...I knew there were a few posters involved.
His shot will most likely be what it has always been give or take. I would say I was starting to have concerns with his FT shooting. He was not even taking them!

Mikal's form will never be Allan Houston-esque but as long as he hits those middy's and ends up shooting 37% from 3 idgaf.

Just feed the hot hands and this team will be good. Any night Brunson/Kat/OG/Mikal can drop 20+, all have dropped at least a 30 piece this season. Keep the D consistent and the offence will figure itself out, 4 solid scorers if one or two are off just lean on the remaining ones that game

Over the last 14 games he has fixed it
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/mikal-bridges-shot-chart-last-14-games
Still can't shoot threes from the top of the key or the left elbow, but he is great everywhere else

Re: Mikal's Broke then Fixed Then Broke Jump Shot
Some thoughts on Mikal.
The idea of him setting his set point higher to alleviate knee issues is complete unreasonable. A higher set point makes you lose upper body power overall in your jumpshot. You would have to generate even more lower body power to compensate for that. If you don't believe me try both ways: Shoot with a set point near eye level and then shoot from a foot higher. The second option you'll find you'll need more leg drive to compensate for that.
The logic is very simple: Look at the sport shot-put: the usually set the ball at around chin level to have additional arm power. If they were to set it above head level, they'd be losing a lot of arm/upper body power and would have to use even more leg power. The "knee issues theory" just shows a complete lack of understandings of shot mechanics.
Additionally---Mikal is one of the least injury prone players in the league. If he had some chronic knee issue, the very very least you would expect would be some missed games here and there, some load management here and there. The idea that someone with chronic knee issues so severe that forces him to change his shooting motion plays through season after season---and didn't even miss meaningless games with the Nets----is just completely unreasonable. In fact over the years I have seen dozens of players with chronic knee injuries...none as far as I can remember changed their shooting motion. If you have reached a point where you'd need to take such drastic measures---your NBA career would be essentially over anyways.

Re: Mikal's Broke then Fixed Then Broke Jump Shot
To me the two biggest flaws are twofold:
1)The obvious one is the high set point. I don't know a single case where a player profited from having such a high set point. Your eye and brain are connected-----the farther you move the ball away from your eye level, the more your brain has to compensate in terms of calculating, balancing out. The shot becomes more unreliable. I can't think of a single great shooter that had such a high set point. The only player that I can remember that was a great midrange shooter and ok from 3 with such a high set point was Rasheed Wallace.
2)To me one of the main current flaws is his balance. He seems to drift and fade on a lot of shots. His three pointer seems rushed, like someone pointed out. You can do that and get away with it in the close range or midrange, but in 3 point territory you'll be much less reliable.
If you look at old footage from him (Phoenix days) you see both these two things much better---set point near eye level and very balanced shooting motion. I do however think that he'll ultimately figure it out. He is a great, smooth athlete with a great head on his shouler and utmost dedication to the game. I trust in his ability a lot.
