It's going to be a different team. But the Knicks didn't "replace" their identity, which was the combination of defense and offensive rebounding.

The term "replace" assumes they had control over keeping it. They didn't. They couldn't resign iHart. They can't play Mitch because he is hurt.

Barring a trade for Gobert or Capela, this identity was gone regardless of the KAT trade.

Randle didn't exactly represent this identity. His offensive rebounding rate is meager. His defense is catastophically bad. Choosing Randle over KAT would not have saved the old team identity, because he never embodied it in the first place.

This is such a misleading header by the Post.

The KAT camps (hate/love) haven't formed properly yet. Randle and RJ aren't around to argue over. There's no starting center drama. Just not enough to be mad at until the team loses a game or two.

so the kat trade was the only thing they could possibly do ? we don't know that. they gave up donte and a pick so they could have done some other things i'm pretty sure. i don't even know that he blames them because i can't read the article.

but the trade is done for better or worse. i don't want to keep going over it. the idea that bondy is trying to troll people by stating something very obvious is ridiculous. it's just what it is. listen, being tough and physical doesn't always win. the 90s knicks were tough but they lost to some teams that just had more talent. so that could be the case here too. i don't know that we have the most talent either though so...we'll see.

Yes there is no way we would be able to survive a season with a center rotation of Sims and then Randle also playing the 5. That would be insanity. And then just basically relying on Mitch (who is super impactful when he plays but he's also made of glass) so putting any type of huge importance of him staying healthy would be gross negligence from the FO.

the trade didn't make us "softer" lets be real here. kat isn't any softer than randle - both have questionable make up and defensive deficiencies. we don't have a true C right now. losing iHart changed the make up of the team.

all that said we have much tougher wings this year than last year.

it's just weak to say we are a finesse team now when really we just played an ugly style or hoops last year

KAT’s defense at the 5 is way more detrimental than Randle’s at the 4. All of KAT’s teams at the 5 have been in the bottom of the league. That hasn’t been the case with Randle at the 4 under Thibs. KAT also playing like wcf KAT isn’t helping us offensively either.

So far Mikal has looked worse than Donte on both ends:

I think we were certainly limited since we were right up against the 2nd apron. No ground on the Randle extension talks. And I don't really know what we could have gotten back for him basically an expiring that is a difficult fit for most NBA rosters since he's a traditional PF that doesn't really shoot it well and doesn't defend. Not really a huge market for those type of players,.

I mean if you just want to look at what we could have gotten for DD and that 1st while keepign Randle...you are looking more in the 10-15 MM range of acquiring a player (assuming we S&T the same guys to increase what we can take in).

You probably talking Brandon Clarke...Steven Adams...Isaiah Stewart....

They wouldn't have been able to get up to Clint Capela 22 MM salary from Donte's 12 MM salary without also giving up Randle...not sure anyone would be interested in that over Towns.
