Management is in win now mode, meaning they want vets and don't want to overpay for a young project, they would have traded Shump, they didn't overpay Fields and they're not overpaying Lin, simple as that.

Stop making everything into a conspiracy theory

Melo and Woodson are the two most powerful people on the team. They need to step up and make it clear they want Lin back. Dolan will spend if necessary; look at how much he gave Novak, Kidd, and Camby.

LIN IS NOT IRREPLACEABLE

Of course he isn't. We have Felton.

You're basically comparing Jeremy Lin in his first season as a starter in the NBA, to Raymond Felton in his 6th season as a starter in the NBA. The fact that Lin in his 1st season is outperforming Felton in his 6th season speaks volumes.

Lin didn't outperform Felton, not even close, and I don't give a **** about the numbers

Lin ......................... Felton
Games: 25 ......................... 54
Minutes: 34 ......................... 38
Shots Attempted 13.8......................... 14.8
FG% 45%......................... 42%
3pt% 34%......................... 33%
PPG 18.2 ...................... 17.1
APG 7.7 ........................ 9.0
SPG 2.0 ........................ 1.8
RPG 3.7 ....................... 3.6
TOPG 4.7 ...................... 3.3

Lin is 23 and was getting his first real minutes in the league when he put up those numbers. Felton's numbers, judging by his career, were a complete aberration and not indicative of his ability, at all.

Even so, all your statistical nitpicking proves is that Felton at his absolute best = Lin during his first meaningful minutes as an NBA player. One is the ceiling of a player, the other possibly a floor.

I want to match Lin but I dont think the difference between Lin and Felton is as large as this board thinks.

If Lin isn't matched, its gonna be because of the finances nothing else.

Not to spite fans, not because NYK doesn't wanna win, not because the other guys are jealus, not because of the way he acts, etc...

Its gonna be because of the money.

let me ask you this then, do you think the knicks were mentally prepared during the off-season to match an offer like the first one lin got or the second one?

cause, to me, it was a big surprise that lin's first offer was so low. i was expecting something a lot higher, as i'm sure the knicks organization was, too.

now, if there were reports saying that we'd match anything up to a billion dollars for Lin, prior to free agency opening up, don't you think they were prepared for the luxury tax ramifications? this second offer is more what we expected in the first place anyway.

13 & 5 on 38% won't win you a chip.

He hasn't put 13/5 up in two years. When a player as young as Felton with obvious motivational issues starts declining, he usually just continues to decline.

He averaged 11 and 6 last year, and it was a horrible year for him.

Yes on terrible percentages and 40 mins a game. It's about impact man. Come on. You're better than that.

This. Lin can get you 13 and 5 in 25 minutes on 46 %

LIN IS NOT IRREPLACEABLE

Again though, the other signings suggest to me that Dolan is not penny-pinching here. And the idea of not matching out of spite is too stupid to deserve a response.

And the only guy to outplayed Miami is defense and froncourt, we are achieving it this offseason, if Melo plays at the right level, and Stat stops being a lazy ass and work on his game and for the team, we would have our shot with this roster for sure.

I don't think anyone in favor of Felton over Lin has seen Felton since he left NY.

The guy is utter trash.

Not a move we recover from -- either for the roster or for the fans. It'd be the end.

I've been a fan since '83 but even I could go no further.

come on now, that's an overreaction. lin's got potential, but it's not like he's cp3 or dwill. it would suck having fatty felton back, but the roster's still solid aside from that with a bunch of really tough, tenacious players; i could see an ecf run. plus, in three years, we could start from scratch.

Yes, Lin is no CP3 or DWill, but we're giving him up for Ray Felton! At least with Gallo, we're giving him for Carmelo Anthony! You see the difference?!

right, but giving up on the knicks? it's frustrating; it's been frustrating for a decade, but emotions are just running too high right now. lin's been a great story and i'd love to have him back, but if he goes to houston and blossoms, sure i'll root for him, but i'll pray for us to embarrass him every time we play the rockets.

Why are we even comparing stats right now?

We're comparing Feltons 54 games to Lin's 25 games... One bad game for lin brings down his stats ALOT more than one bad game for Felton... you really cant compare their stats.

Completely ignoring Lin (because I think we still match it), this was a great trade. I mean we got a starting caliber PG for Gadzuric and Jefferies (we also got another great veteran guy who won't play but will be nice for the locker room). I know Felton gets hate, but the dude is an above average PG. If the contract is 4 years $16 mil, it's a little long... but still a good deal.

I know everyone here is freaking out, but don't be so pessimistic. I see no way in hell that we actually give up Lin. I feel like it's the opposite of what everyone is saying about the luxury tax because instead of Dolan not wanting to pay it... he went out and added ANOTHER guy in addition to Lin. The Clippers had 4 PGs last year. It's about collecting assets.

Good post.

As long as we still match Lin, which I still believe we do, I'm still fine with the Felton acquisition if he makes a commitment to defense.
