No Desmond Bane? Or are you selecting him at no. 8?

:o

I'm just really not a big fan of Bane. I know the stats are real good and he has the type of maturity that you like in players heading into the NBA...and some folks have dreams of sugar plum fairies dancing in their heads about him...but it's his translation into the NBA that I'm concerned about.

The short arms is obviously the most glaring thing. He's got the shortest arms (proportionately speaking) among players generally considered draft-able in the draft. And while I'm not one to go nuts about wingspan's like many people, the lack of length and reach is a big concern, especially considering he lacks ideal lateral quickness. Biggest concern in this area is defense and his ability in that area when facing NBA level talent regardless of how competitive he may be.

Offensively while he has put up excellent numbers in college especially from 3 but the concerns here is that he has a weird hitch in his shooting form. Not glaring but every little thing will get magnified once you hit the NBA that may be forgivable in college. I see his 3 point percentages dropping significantly in the NBA. Also I'm not sure about his ability to actually put the ball on the floor and create separation for himself, which he's going to need due to length issues. When he does try to drive to the basketball, he looks mechanical and uncertain.

Physically he can use his strength to compensate in other areas in college, but that isn't going to work as well in the NBA.

Sure he can improve but that's an rational that can be applied to everyone in this draft so it really doesn't carry a whole lot of weight when used. I just don't see a lot of what he's able to do in college translating well into the NBA.

It's also hard to really try to come up with comps. Similar body types? Quentin Richardson is one guy that pops to mind. Q was a lot more talented offensively and just was a more physical player (Q also had a 7 foot wingspan). A Miles Bridges or a PJ Tucker? Not really as both guys were really tougher, more interior players in college as well. Lance Stephenson? Stephenson was a much better playmaker, shot creator and defender. Just don't recall too many (any?) SG/SF types with Bane's profile being successful at the NBA level.

If needed we can throw in Knox, but we shouldn't need to. Sacramento should be looking to shed salary. Hield could do well as a scorer for the Knicks.

We might need to throw in a 2nd or future 2nds...
don’t think it gets done straight up. Weird to say but knox is to much of an assest to throw in even with how poor he has been. If knox is in maybe a future pick swap or 2nd coming from them back to us

Would be an awesome trade for us and I'd even include Knox. We'd still be lacking star power and he doesn't make things easier on defense, but we could still go get an All Star for the PG or either forward position. Buddy could contribute to winning teams if you've got smart players around him. He's not a first option though.

Oh yeh don’t get me wrong I would love it if we got heild.
But straight I don’t think it gets done and it’s a reach to throw knox in imo as he still has potential. I’m sure they could work a deal out tho

Linked in that article:

https://empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-knicks/knicks-reportedly-want-to-add-a-number-of-player-development-coaches-to-staff/

There is internal consideration in the organization to hire a significant number of player-development coaches for Thibodeau’s staff, per SNY sources.

To clarify, these coaches would not be replacing the assistant coaches Thibodeau would want to bring in for his staff. Instead, they’ll be hired in addition to Thibodeau’s coaches, which means that the Knicks coaching staff will be expanding.

This article is a month old. I'm hoping they mean AFTER Bryant and Payne.
Because two isn't a "significant" number.

It's based on a rumor, but still hoping the Knicks hire more development staff

Drop the bag on Fred Vinson on the Pelicans, he has done magic with Brandon Ingram's shot and pre-bubble Lonzo.

dope! lonzo's shot is now just regular ugly. before it was hideous. medusa bad. and he was hitting it earlier in the season.

i've gotten so much differing advice on shooting best practices. fred is a ten toes to the rim guy. some shooting coaches advocate for a 45 degree-ish angle from the rim to better align the natural motion of the arm. i wonder if that depends on body type. i've always done better with the former.

Wonder what a Blake Griffin salary dump would cost DET? 2 years left. Maybe some of these larger deals start playing musical chairs.

DET isn't giving up their pick to dump him IMO. If they were, I'd do it. If we need the money in 2021, we can pay someone to take on a large expiring deal.

Whatever happened to the Oubre + 10th pick (for cap relief) trade talk? Was that all just nonsense? If not, that is THE deal Leon Rose needs to be front and center, first in line on rather than any of the other jibbidy jibe rumors about big contracted vets or giant overpays in free agencies for guys that'll lock them into the treadmill.

I think its nonsene. Oubre might have a positive value. The Suns dont need to attach an asset to move him. Even If all the cap space teams don't want him, I still think some team could make a 3 team deal.

Phoenix out: Oubre. In: Cap space

Dallas out: Brunson + Powell or Tim + 2022 FRP lottery protected . In: Oubre. They give an asset for an upgrade in wing.

Hornets out: Cap Space; In: Brunson + Powell or Tim5 + 2022 FRP lottery protected. They rent cap space for an asset.

Putting this here since Jerami Grant is a possible FA target, but he's another example of a guy who took a while to develop his 3PT shooting:

Grant years 1-4 - 30.1% on 1.7 3PA
Grant last 2 years - 39.1% on 3.6 3PA

Career averages:

Frank - 31.1% on 2.3 3PA
Knox - 33.7% on 4 3PA
RJ - 32% on 3.5 3PA

These guys aren't lost causes but we have to have patience. I get that being lottery picks that's tougher, but hopefully this development staff they put together that looks great on paper can accelerate that.

[Note: RJ even shooting that well from 3 when our spacing and playmaking around him was atrocious is actually impressive.]

You guys hear about this trade
Frank 8 27 for the #2 pick

If we get melo frank is a bit redundant, a large guard that doesnt shoot well.

I will probably do that and for golden state frank becomes a great defensive asset. He will thrive in gs like iggy/green did. But not anywhere he is asked to be the lead guard (anytime soon).

Yeah.. this idea/rumor has been ongoing for a while now. Depending upon which rumor mill you trust- I've also seen Wiggins included so that GS rids themselves of salary.

As for this trade... let's say we select Obi & Mannion. It would be Obi, Nico, Frank and Dallas pick for basically Ball. Hhhmmm, I don't know. But I could see some variation of this happening. Honestly I couldn't care less about Obi or Nico for Ball but Frank and that Dallas pick is worth looking over.

On another note... wondering if Hampton won't become as good a pro as Ball? He's growing on me from what I've read from actual scouts

Way to rich of a deal for ball.... your talking about a 4 for 1 swap for ball who isn’t a sure thing himself.... imagine 1 Out of 4 players develop into anything and ball busts everyone will be saying same old knicks.... if it’s day the 8th pick plus frank and 27th I might bite
