I know there's no fix for this cause bish does enough already, he can't be constantly updating the rosters, but it's just annoying to reach out to someone in trade discussions and they have a wildly different roster than what's on the page

Like, I don't like to initiate conversations sometimes because it feels like I try and figure out a framework for what a deal would look like, and then I hear back from them that they already traded the guys that'd make the salaries work lol. And then cause it's not official, I can't get a feel on who to even start to message cause I can't figure out who needs what or what salary can fit where.

Just work with GMs you trust and have a good rapport with. Most will tell you what their current unofficial roster looks like if you ask. Or at the very least they can tell you who on their current unofficial roster is available.

For matching salary purposes I usually canvas the league and take notes. That helps me figure out who has who, who’s available, and what it’ll cost to acquire someone. Who’s serious about trading proactively, and who’s taking the slow wait & see approach.

Then that whittles the field down to the parties I know I can work with, and what players they have available.

It’s work, but that’s the approach I find during the pre-opening of trade season that works best for me. I also find that getting my work in early, helps me avoid having to deal with free agency. Which I consider an endeavor of “who’s willing to overpay the most for contracts they’ll soon regret.” I avoid free agency at all costs.

yeah the two times this happens would be before the trade restrictions are lifted for recently signed players during the season and before the new league roles over. So many teams have agreed upon deals and guys are even dealt multiple times already.

A lot of the leg work happened during the playoffs with the teams eliminated so unless teams tell you who they have (which is not always the case) its best to wait until the dust settles and I see where the player movement and rosters land once the new league year and trades open back up "officially".

The super proactive GMs have gotten some amazing deals done. It's almost as if they got right to work the day after being eliminated. I know this because by the time I got around to making moves, a lot of deals were already agreed upon. Most of this group we've got wastes no time and I respect it. To 2010's point, GMs will often share their new team if someone "they trust" inquires. Waiting until the smoke clears though is definitely a stress free way to go about it
