I don't disagree with you but how you long do you wait for your Durant? They were the #1 seed last year, its hard to justify not going all in. Not enough difference makers to go around and even less with future "super-teams" on the horizon.
i understand but you have to be realistic. gordon hayward and the celtics still won't beat the cavs, let alone golden state. you're already the second seed in the east. this doesn't get you any further. maybe you do this and 2 years from now whoever you pick in the draft is so good that you can take over 2 years from now. but if that's case. maybe it's wiser to let the money roll over for a better target. once you do this, are you paying i.t. too ? lot to think about.
Like you I'd probably wait. But it actually may not be such a terrible deal tbh. With the #1 pick you have to expect to acquire a difference makers. Hayward or Griffin allows them to continue to win now while giving there young players time to come into there own. In 2-4 years Fultz, Brown and 2018 pick should be ready for primetime. Having I.T. and Hayward could be nice role players by then. Also not having cap space is less of an issue when you have a bunch of expendable young assets to acquire whoever you may desire.
How I wish the Knicks were blessed with such versatility.
