Former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins remains squarely on the Knicks' radar as they continue their search for a new head coach, per people familiar with the matter, according to SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley.
Jenkins, 40, was fired by Memphis after nearly six seasons with nine games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season despite having a 44-29 record at the time. It was reported that the Grizzlies were anticipating on firing him after a first-round playoff exit, per ESPN.
The Grizzlies still made the playoffs with a 48-34, earning the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. They were eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in four games.
Jenkins owns a career coaching record of 250-214 (.539) with his best season coming in 2021-22 when he led the Grizzlies to a 56-26 record and the No. 2 seed. That team lost in the conference semifinals, falling to the eventual NBA champion Golden State Warriors.
New York is not in any rush with its search and are casting a wide net of candidates, Begley reported Wednesday.

Every available coach worth their salt is going to want the opportunity to work with what we have. It's one of the best jobs in the league.
There is no better job in the league right now. Any offensive minded coach probably salivates over the idea of taking this roster and building a system catered to it.
The narrative driven by ESPN is that no one wants to coach here when that is garbage.
There's also no better job in the league right now by virtue of it being the only opening

I know he won’t be hired cuz he’s too similar to Thibs but I honestly think Mike Malone makes the most sense for this roster. Won a championship with a terrible defending big and Murray. Murray is probably a better defender than Brunson but I wouldn’t consider him good either. He meshed a guard big combo into a consistent top 10 offense. I think he’d be able to put together a lot of actions that would get both towns and Brunson both involved with the play. Their 2 man game really fell apart as the year went on. You could play OG in the Aaron Gordon role, Mikal in the KCP or MPJ role, and hopefully Deuce in KCP or MPJ role. It just seems to fit a lot better than I would have expected at first.

Exactly. When was the last time you seen a team fire a coach after getting to the furthest they’ve ever been in the last 20 years and their top options to replace him are going after other team’s coaches? It’s extremely bizarre and it’s absolutely fair for us to be skeptical about this.

We also haven't lost anything. No coach is off the market who was otherwise in it. I'm not sure what the benefit of these attempted coach poaches are but I don't see a meaningful drawback either.
Like all the "ahh let's panic there is no plan we're worse than the Isiah Knicks" crap is annoying. We're gonna interview a bunch of coaching candidates. That's the plan. And for some reason they tried to poach guys they couldn’t get first.
If the guy we pick sucks then we have a problem.
This process is neither positive nor negative. It just is
Basically the process is the process. There shouldn't be a reaction attached to it. We'll have plenty of time to do that when we choose a coach.
I take that back, I think I'll have a negative reaction if we didn't contact these coaches and one later becomes available and we rushed to a decision.

How's that going in Philly?
Also when have we ever been bailed out with a #3 pick when we should be picking at like #7. Every time we should pick #7 we pick #8 and then an all-star is selected at 7.

Nothing I've seen suggests Hurley has said no to us or has even been asked. He basically told reporters to go away. Wright is retired and going nowhere.
Bringing up Kerr from 10 years ago is unbelievable, especially since there was another open job with a much better roster. Anyone with a brain would have gone to GS and I said so at the time. Also, that was two management groups ago. What are we doing here?
Jason Ratt isn't coming. He used us for leverage. Hopefully we stop asking after him.
Woody and D'Antoni have done fine for themselves since their Knicks stint. Not everyone gets to coach in the NBA forever.
We're about to have a large and supremely qualified group of candidates suit for the job. They need to get it right, period.

Dude is a CAA client. Here is from CAA website: Jenkins attended The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics while concentrating in Management and minoring in Psychology.
Dude is educated in Psychology and he must understand the cap math even though he is not in charge of that. He has multiple +.600 seasons coaching. What else you want? End the circus and hire the guy

Re: Official Knicks Coaching Search Thread
Johnnie Bryant is only a year younger than Taylor Jenkins, and started his NBA career only one season later than Jenkins
If the Knicks are targeting Jenkins, it makes me feel like Bryant will not be the guy
Bryant worked four seasons with the Knicks not just under Thibs, but under Rose's regime. Shouldn't that be more valuable than a completely outside hire like Jenkins?
Does Bryant's four years of experience working for the Knicks make him less valuable than Taylor Jenkins who has no ties to the Knicks what so ever?
Something just feels off to me about Taylor Jenkins being a target over Johnnie Bryant.
