There's like 1 great pure shooter every 2-3 drafts. This might be the guy. He has the numbers and stroke to back it. I honestly would not be mad if we took him.

He can't defend at the NBA level. Do we really want an all offensive player who is not athletic to boot? I just don't see Phil taking him.

I'll say this, id rather have Luke Kennard than Malik Monk.

Luke can ball, hes comfortable putting the ball on the floor, good instincts and IQ. I like his versatility more than Monk. If Monk is struggling, he may not be able to help in other facets of the game. Luke can grab some boards, and might be better at finding the open man more often.

Wouldnt be mad if we draft him at all. Not sure if he has all-star potential, but he can get there if he keeps working on his handle and attacking/finishing around the rim. Maybe its a lazy comparison because they are both lefties, but he reminds me of Manu a bit.

His defense is trash though. Rather pick him in the teens with the 8th because of his defense. Hopefully we can acquire another 1st and select him.

No argument with your closing statement. I just don't really see him as an 8th pick. I mean yeah, it is great to have offense but at the NBA level he is going to either need a PG to create shots for him (which we don't have and haven't had) or he needs some athleticism, which he doesn't have.

That said, I trust in Phil (rather Gaines) and if he is picked, I would still look forward to what he becomes.

Monk is an elite scorer, he doesn't have the discipline of Kennard. That often happens when one has extreme athleticism like Monk. Monk might be able to defend quite well, though he has shorter arms and isn't exactly tall, but against 1's, if the coaches really get on him, he can do a good job (but no one can guard elite guards.)

Kennard is the sacrificial Lamb for the Media for Frank. ESPN is throwing us the Ally Oop on smoke screens.

I think the Current NYK Draftboard:
1. Monk
2. Isaac/Tatum
3. Frank
4. Kennard

Any suggestion?
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

https://sethsdrafthouse.com/finch-returns-to-dish-on-nba-prospects-fa57b7c494ef

Luke Kennard, 6’6” sophomore guard, Duke

“He has good vision and can shoot with range, but you’re basically looking at a one-dimensional player. He always gets stopped on the dribble two or three times, then he pivots and shoots. It’s going to be hard to do that in the NBA — dribble, dribble, stop, pivot, pivot. He’s going to be challenged athletically, but he can shoot it and he can really pass. He’s not a point guard but he can handle it. Good size for a two."
________________

So
With that being said, Luke is a very good prospect, but that the Knicks are reaching for him at 8 IS a reach. Donovan Mitchell is sitting right there blocking his way.
Donovan is a way better athlete, a prideful elite defender and while his offense is not as polished as Kennard, he can definitely hold his own.
Any offensive advantages Luke Kennard has over Donovan Mitchell, the huge defensive advantages for Donovan far outweigh them all.

When will we stop ignoring the defensive side of the game? That alone should cross him off our list, smh. If you can't play defense, I don't want you on my team. Period.

Then acquire a mid 2nd round pick. Let's say 48. Select Frank Mason at 44, Sindarius Thornwell at 48, and Nigel Hayes at 58.

Ntilikina
Kennard
Mason
Thornwell
Hayes

Trying to understand why people think the best pure shooter in the draft is going to be sitting around at 15. Kennard - Mitchell more likely than Frank - Kennard...assuming we can even get that 15th pick

Kennard may be the best shooter but he literally cannot do anything else to benefit an NBA team. He cannot defend or create. He is a bench player at best. Not a 11st rounder IMO.

Look at Jimmer. A fantastic shooter and he can even create some yet he's in China because he can't defend.

Kennard can definitely create. That is actually one stronger elements of his game. He is a very crafty passer and has excellent vision. Jimmer is a poor comp. Kennard has great height for a SG at 6'6", where Jimmer is a SG in a PG's body. Kennard falls short in the defensive length department as he has a short wingspan.

Basically, he's a tweener and people don't have faith his frame will carry enough weight to become a true PF. I'm an Isaac fan but gave up arguing for dude. I'd liken him to Frank in that he's gonna be a good defender, he has a lot of tools that can be developed on the offensive end and he'll add length and size to whichever F position he winds up in.

Steph Curry with the shot boi?

But seriously, the dude got range and can hit from anywhere. Wouldn't be surprised if he emerged as one of the best scorers in his draft class. He's also not just spot up shooter, he can score in a variety of ways. Him and KP would make a nice scoring duo

has a little slow-footed penguin in him for the NBA SG position though. but i agree that on offense he poses serious problems in a thinking man's game.

i also think he is more athletic than people assume. but not quick enough to really stay in front of NBA SGs. and if they're thinking big PG, forget it on the defensive end.
