So what do the Knicks have to do to better develop youth? Is it coaching? Trainers? Culture? What y’all think is the main issue in terms of development?

they need to actually start and play the kids 30 mpg so they can develop through in game experience instead of trash vets

I totally agree with this. But I also feel there’s more to it.

not getting more minutes is not why none of them can shoot the ball

Better assistant coaches, actually send guys to the G-league if they aren't playing enough,Siakam was in the G-league there's no excuse not to send Knox down there if he's not getting meaningful minutes with the main team. Play guys 30 minutes, Mitch not starting at this point is inexcusable, stop running the offense through Randle and play Frank over Payton so that we have someone who will look for Mitch & RJ as well as force Frank into positions where he has to shoot the three.
The main issue with our development is the lack of direction and the fact the vets get to play by a different set of rules, Randle can turn the ball over 10000 times per game yet they still let him handle the ball while RJ stands in the corner watching. Either you're all in on development on you're not, there are no half measures with it, if you have a vet playing the same position as a young guy you play the young guy more.

Kind of embarrassing how us fans can come up with better ways of developing players than so-called "experts" that actually get paid to do this.

The answer is quite simple, stop drafting raw projects so high. Understand what is required to succeed, go after guys who have a good base in terms of skill set coming into the league. Stop drafting dudes who are 2 years away from being 2 years away in hopes that you are going to find the next Kawhi or Giannis. Chances are, you simply won't.

what is development ? 1 - being put in a position to do the thing you're already good at more often ? or 2 - working on the things you're not good at and coming back a more complete player ? when people on here talk about development they mostly talk about 1. 2 is way more important.

or if you do, make sure he's a one of a kind athlete like giannis. has unique skills/athletiscm for his height/body type. what's special about kevin knox physically ? nothing.

People should be happy that Knox is actually not getting starters minutes. If he was about shyt he would work his tail off. A player will only be good if he wants to be. Knox has the tools to be a good player, there are players who would love to have his size and ability to shoot and work off that but Knox has to want it. He doesn't need a coach rewarding him minutes when one of his weaknesses is motor and being engaged. No he needs to be put in this exact situation he's in right now, just so we can see what he's really about. If he comes in next year the same player, he aint shyt. If he comes in next year with a sharpened skill set because he worked his tail off in the summer and he's ready to destroy dudes in practice and in real games, then you got something that worked. But I'm tired of this crying about why we aren't babying these grown ass professional athletes. I wouldn't hand them shyt, go work for it if you want it. Knox has all the tools to be a Brandon Ingram type of player but if he wants to settle for being just a Wilson Chandler type then that's on him and nobody else.

Giannis wasn’t a one of a kind athlete when drafted either, he kinda morphed into one after a couple years

his height, wingspan and vertical was ridiculous even as a rookie. he had huge hands too. he was still kinda slim but there were physical characteristics that were unique that he was born with.

Disagree, Masai was desperately trying to trade up to draft him, his athleticism and size is basically the only reason he got drafted where he did. If he were American and went to College he would have been a top 5 pick that year off his measurable and athleticism alone.

Re: Around the NBA #3 - Kevin Twitterfingers' RGM Burner Edition
Also about bridges, he’s 1.5 years older than Knox, and even though he played 2 years in college Bridges sucked last year as a rookie. Knox outplayed him every time we played the hornets. But Bridges got to start and play 30mpg this season. Knox should probably have stayed an extra year in college and this should be his rookie season as well. So maybe if we keep playing knox into year 3 he can develop too. Now Bridges turns 22 next month, he’s starting to hit the age where a player can take the next step, we need to invest the same way in our draft picks and let them play through struggles, we have no excuse not to try. Knox is demoralized and it shows. We are not showing any kind of commitment to these guys. Also the coaching and organizational changes and dysfunction certainly can’t be helping the situation. Miles wouldn’t have developed here either, he’s have been playing 10 mpg behind Morris and Randle just the same

Re: Around the NBA #3 - Kevin Twitterfingers' RGM Burner Edition
Knicks are doing a decent job developing, imo. Basically all the 2nd rounders are looking great.
Yeah, Knox and Frank suck. But its not like they were some can't miss talents. They were projects, and sometimes they don't work out. KP was also a huge project, but no ones talking how Knicks developed him into an all-star in the 3rd year, lol.
Lets see what RJ does in the summer. I doubt he even works with the team guys. Prob hires his own shooting coach, maybe even works with Nash.
