But guys want to play here. Melo did. Probably KD did. I still think LeBron did, but yes was scared by the losing. Same with KD. Donovan still wants to. No doubt they're a punching bag and they've earned it (or at least it's based on real things, even if some were bad luck). But it's not like what you're saying equates 1:1 or close to an inability to add top talent.

If anything I think it still weighs in their favor at this point, despite the recent and extended history of failure. They can still attract top guys.

In that way, the Utah guy has a point. The Knicks shouldn't give up on attracting top guys. It's an advantage still, as much as the media loves to say size of market no longer matters. That is an oversimplification and actually more incorrect than correct to this day.

The Nets got KD only because they're in NY.

Melo, Brunson and Mitchell were interested because they grew up in NY, so they have a connection to the city. Melo was over a decade ago though. And look how hard the Knicks went to secure Brunson - they went as far as hiring his damn dad. Mitchell presumably wants to play here, but he's not exactly coming as a free agent.

Durant didn't sign with the Knicks. He signed with the Nets. It's a symptom of the problem, not an encouraging "almost", because the Nets aren't going anywhere, and they will always be a threat to attract players who would've otherwise signed with the Knicks. 2019 wasn't an aberration.

The market obviously favors the Knicks, generally-speaking. The fact that so many stars have turned them down in spite of their locale speaks of their incompetence and their reputation.

Melo did not grow up in NY and I don't think that's really why DM is interested, nor JB. I think you're wrong on all three my friend.

Melo spent the first eight years of his life in NY. It's not meaningless. He wanted to come home.

NBA stars have proven time and time again in the last 10 years they don't want to play for the Knicks. Even those who were interested in the market found better alternatives.

Brunson isn't a star, but he's a good player, and a step in the right direction in attracting star players. The Knicks threw the kitchen sink at him just to secure him, because they know nothing is guaranteed for the Knicks - and I fully support their efforts.

If they can acquire Mitchell, the Knicks will officially be back in business.

“I think the Jazz got a sense of what New York might be willing to do. It’s not just one particular deal. I think there are options,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on Get Up. “It’s almost like a sliding scale that the more players you put in a deal, the less draft picks you want to give up. The more draft assets you put in a deal, you want to put less players in.”

“If you’re the Jazz, ‘I want the players and I want the picks.’ That’s where it starts.”

“New York is motivated. They’re motivated to get Donovan Mitchell, but I think they’re also motivated to not just give up everything to get him,” Wojnarowski said. “They’ve got four of their own unprotected first-round picks.”

“Now, people talk about seven or eight picks. I think a lot of those picks are conditional protected picks that are coming from places like Detroit and Washington. I don’t think the Jazz value those the way they do New York’s unprotected picks.”

Because all NBA teams only have one guy who can dribble a basketball towards the basket with any ability...

You've been watching the Knicks for too long.

 Jokes on you I barely watch the Knicks. You know who have watched a lot of? Donovan Mitchell.. he's not who you think he is.

it probably is his leverage player though.

You know Dolan will get impatient take my offer.

The knicks leverage is we know Donovan will ask out and we have the best package.

who blinks first?

moocow007 wrote:Hey you picked the one team that works for your argument. Nice job.

Or, if the Jazz trade Mitchell, they should immediately trade all their future picks for Grizzlies picks, since the Jazz have the 4th highest w/l% in history and the Grizz are 3rd worst

And the Spurs, who have the highest w/l% in league history should clearly trade all their picks to Golden State, who are in the bottom half

I can keep going

It's a completely ridiculous argument to make that we should not look at the roster as it is right now along with their assets to evaluate future potential and instead only focus on their overall record for the entire history of the franchise

If you want to argue that the average FO won't be around in 5-7 years and it's hard to tell how good a team will be 5-7 years from now, that's a reasonable argument. But "Lakers good in past, therefore always be good" is stupid. It's like how you think analytics are for nerds just looking at numbers instead of watching the games, but instead, you're just looking at numbers and not paying attention to the games.
