Its called showing respect to me. Why make yourself the bad guy when you dont even have control where you land. If Utah sends him to NYC they doing him a favor. He talk **** and he can end up elsewhere. You would rather have the dude create negative press about himself just to get traded? damn bro...the Thirst is Elite.
We talking First Team ALL Dry Mouth here.
It happens all the time. Guys publicly make it known they want out or at least get it out to trusted media members. The Jazz traded Gobert for picks probably before they consulted with Donovan...I wouldn't expect any good player to stand pat and want to waste his years away next to Fontecchio and Vanderbilt. If they want to rebuild he doesn't have to be a good soldier and sit passively about it.
KD is doing it right now with plenty years remaining on his contract and no one will care when he's on his new team. Its the way of the NBA. The stars have all the power.
Yeah but he is trying to get traded to a SPECIFIC team tho. He doesn’t want just to be out he wants to be here. He gains nothing in pissing the Utah FO off. You really not seeing the big picture here. His best bet is to play the nice guy. NY ain’t the only Chic at that bar remember that.
Thats true, I'm still unsure if it has to be the Knicks for Donovan though. I think he would be more than happy in Miami (I just think realistically his agent and himself know the only package Ainge will consider is one from the knicks) because it contains the most future draft capital which is clearly what Ainge is prioritizing.
Ainge leverage seems more like if you don't give us what we want Knicks we will just keep him. I think they tried to play the card "if you don't give me want we want we will trade him to another team". But I think all parties realize that is a bluff because those other teams interested can't compete at a draft pick level as we can.
Which is why I think Donovan just being a good soldier might eventually run out because if its training camp time and he's still in Utah he might have to play the I don't want to be here card if Ainge is doing his typical either you take my offer or we have no deal BS.
