That's crazy.

One thing I always found interesting is how there was never any on-air interaction between Zach Lowe and SAS. Lowe never appeared on First Take, and SAS (if I'm not mistaken) never appeared on the Lowe Post, and I always sensed a bit of mutual disdain between the two.

Now, I don't know if it played a factor here, and it may have simply been a cost-cutting move. But it wouldn't shock me if internal politics played a role.

It might have been out of respect for one another. WTF is Lowe gonna do on First Take? Or vice versa. It would have been putting the other out of their wheelhouse.

It is disappointing to see that ESPN seems to think that tripling down on the Entertainment over Sports is the best avenue for their bottom line.

i think this firing is just a sign of the times.

i'm sure ESPN has the metrics on it and i'd guess that compared to the "entertainment" guys on ESPN, zach lowe was getting a fraction of the impressions on all of the various social media websites. when was the last time we've seen a zach lowe clip go viral? unfortunately, ball knowledge just isn't valued anymore i guess

Woj retirement timing seems a little suspect when you see them fire somebody else a few days to save money.

Was it because it was a better opportunity or did a little bird let Woj know what was coming and he got ahead of ESPN?

They got bent on the entertainment side back in the Cold Pizza days when it turned into the Skip/Stephen A show and then became First Take. Now it's entertainment and betting!

Once they let McAfee go on the air about that transphobic stuff regarding that female boxer at the Olympics, because it was going to drive views, i was completely out on them. Unless it's a live sports broadcast I can't watch that garbage network.

That, and the way Stephen A and Shannon treated Monica McNutt on air...nah man. They can have it.

If I wanted to entertain that kind of sports talk I'd listen to Barstool Sports.

I don't think it's about trimming fat. Bill Simmons made an interesting point on his Pod and I did a little searching on my end and it did make sense. I've been on the outs with ESPN since the Rachel thing because that leak was 100% a contract move while she was negotiating with them. I think Pat is 100% worse than SAS and was so annoyed about the hoopla he was getting when he signed.

What did Simmons say?

Pat actually is worse than Stephen A. I didn't mind him initially, but once he pulled that stunt I had to cut bait. I can't support that.

I just didn't like how SAS treated Monica. Dudes don't even watch WNBA ball and tried to tell her what's what, they both looked foolish and she hasn't been on ever since. That tells me all I need to know.
