Not according to Ainge though I agree that Phil was trying to scare KP straight. Ainge called Phil to inquire and Phil asked for the moon and the stars, according to him. He snickered when recounting the exchange signaling that Phil wasn’t serious.

Of course, when you announce your young future All Star may be available, teams are gonna be calling. At the time, KP was seen as one of the best young players in the L with future All Star and likely franchise player written all over him, and at the time, Boston had the most attractive warchest of multiple lottery picks coming their way, and it only makes sense for them to at least do due diligence and inquire. I believe Phil asked for Brown, the 3rd pick (Tatum) and 2-3 more first rd lottery picks which was crazy but mainly because he didn't want to set a realistic ask price that teams were willing to meet and end up really trading KP when it was supposed to be just a scare tactic. But I really believe Phil was ticked off enough by KP that if Ainge had made a counter offer just slightly below asking price, Phil would have done the trade.
I think Phil was determined to set a culture where no player including the team's best player was above team protocols (like Pop used to be tough on TD and rest of players were like if he's tough on TD then only fair he's tough on me too) and I'm one of few who thought he was underrated and would have made a great exec if he had been given a few more years. Dolan "promised" he wouldn't interfere but in the end he did.
