Interesting to see that CP was actually again right with his comment with Thibs being on thin ice. You can now read that the team is actually evaluating the whole situation and has not reached a final decision.....I do get the sense overall that they may be more likely to bring him back but it seems far from a foregone conclusion....

speaking of boston, knicks ate Celtics 77 (double drag screen) for breakfast. so they probably not too interested in running it.

yea JVG I def agree with you on this
But my gripe is, when it’s crunch time or money time in the fourth, we go away from all these sets. If you look at these actions we are running them in the first half or early 4th quarter, when we really need easy buckets in crunch time
i mean, we use spain a lot to free brunson up to isolate. because he's brunson. kinda need that late games.
and i'm not trying to convince you to like thibs. but we can't just be saying whatever.
Very true but I think it’s safe to say that Thibs doesn’t run these sets when it’s a close game and crunch time in the 4th. These are very glaring moments, and that doesn’t begin to address the defense where we ran NO ZONES to cover for the defensive deficiencies of Brunson and KAT. No defensive acumen or adjustments is an indictment on the coach as well.

Agreed. This x10000
I think we are beginning to see that the Knicks are evaluating and are continually trying to get better, rather than just run it back. This is unheard of and shows a paradigm shift in their train of thought from years past. It shows they value continuity, but put winning a ring above all else.

And whomever the person or people were that told him to use the bench, they can now say playing Shamet and Wright earlier in the series could've been the difference in the series.
TJ McConnell was too physical for Deuce and the moment Shamet and Wright started defending him, he was non-existent on the offensive end.
so deuce and payne weren't supposed to get a chance in their roles? or would we call that an adjustment?
speaking of shamet, he was in the 9-man rotation in the detroit series but not in boston because...
wait for it...
boston went 8 guys instead of 9 and the knicks scaled down for the matchups. 9th/situational guy was precious for size reasons. same argument being made for the shamet adjustment to mcconnell.
When it comes to McConnell I was saying Thibodeau could've tried using Shamet from the beginning of the series, because McConnell did the same thing to Deuce in the series last season, and Shamet and Wright's height looked to be the difference this time around.
gotcha. i understand that point now. the recognition should have been from last time. i get that and agree. shamet and wright rendered tj pretty ineffective.
i also understand wanting to give your rotation guy a chance to be effective with the matchup if you worked on some things. but shamet and wright were big time physical and high energy stoppers when we needed.

The better half of Knicks Film School (Shawn and Mensa) just put out a pod where they speak on why Thibs ain't the guy.
Do not accept Third or Fourth place as success. We waaay past that point now.

Not even if we have my DREAM off-season. Where we trade for Divo and sign Oubre to a one year deal. Thibs wouldn't start either to send his Avatar Hart to the second unit.

I don't buy the idea that Tom is getting fired.
I think the pivot is going to be towards getting guys that Tom will play in a 9 to 10 man rotation.

Re: Thibs needs to go
You know what the irony of the Pacer series was?
Thibs has always been like super stubborn in playing his starters ---even in games where the Kicks were up like 25 points with 3-4 minutes to go. Like everyone was stunned to what lengths he would go and risk injury just to make sure that a comeback by the other team was ruled out 100%. He would do that in 10-20 games every season, starting in November.
In the Pacers series, everything that Thibs has been trying to prevent came to fruition at the worst possible moment in game 1. Despite his best efforts he could not close the most important game in 25 years. No matter how much he tried to prevent this--not trusting his bench guys, over-relying on his starters to an extreme that was laughable in the closing minutes of blowouts even---it came back at the worst possible moment really.
To me it was like the ultimate rejection of the basketball gods in regards to Thibs and his coaching philosophy. It was like them saying "You want to coach from a fearful, stubborn, neurotic vantage point? We are not going to reward you. That guy over there (Carlisle) and that team are playing much more the right way."

What would be shocking about that? It wouldn't even warrant an anouncement. Look at the Begley interview...I think it is very telling...Begley also is someone that usually knows a bit about the stuff going in with the Knicks (like CP).

Maybe they are leaning towards making a change but are in talks with replacements to make sure they don't fire Thibs and none of the potential replacements are truly available or interested...

Jeff Van Gully wrote:MrDollarBills wrote:KnicksGadfly wrote:I'm kind of thinking about the best coaches and how they bounce back, and the one who comes to mind is Popovich. Devastating loss to Miami in the finals, reinvents his team using the Summertime strategy, the precursor to what the Warriors did.
It took a lot to do what Pop did. He had to 1) rebuild his team emotionally, and then 2) adjust his tactics drastically
I don't see Thibs being able to do either 1 or 2. I don't think he can do what Pops did in terms of leading. I don't see his tactics changing much either, and I think that's really required if we want to win with KAT. Obviously, this is Pop and that's a championship level, Hall of Fame GOAT-level coach. Worse coaches than Pop have won.
However, I'd say that what Thibs is facing is an effort on that level. We've had multiple team meetings (showing the team is not on sync), we've had a postseason with inconsistent effort, we've had devastating losses on a historic sale, now locker room shat leaking, and a flawed team that just got wrecked offensively and defensively. We had Tyrese Haliburton taunting us the whole series...and it was like they just ate it. On a tactical and locker-room level, this team needs to rebuilt. Even if we argue that we're facing is 60% of what the Spurs faced...I'm not confident in Thibs being the guy.
These guys let Haliburton bitch them out.
There was a lack of pride and effort in that 3Q that goes beyond coaching.
yeah. you can think thibs is not doing a good job AND recognize what the players did or didn't do. these are never zero sum discussions.
Yeah i have to step back and be objective.
No, Tom did not coach a perfect playoffs.
Yes, he made adjustments that helped get us 2 wins away from making the finals.
Yes, Shamet and Wright should have been playing well before May.
No, the players did not play with a sense of urgency.
No, the players did not pay attention to detail. We know the perpetrators and it starts with our Captain.
So there are a lot of reasons why we are home right now and they all should be evaluated.
However I don't think Tom is gonna get fired. But he definitely has to adapt to this roster and also to aspects of the game that aren't in line with his philosophy.
