A team can preach defense and hard work and not have every single member of the team be a good defender. I guess we should have traded for Ryan Anderson and his 60m dollar contract.
Or we didn't have to trade him at all till either we got a better haul or he opted out.

This team needs to rebuild. So virtually any trade that did not weigh us down with bad long-term contracts would be a net positive, especially one that arguably makes us less competitive in the short term and thus enhances the potential for a shot at Porter or Doncic.
I, for one, am pleased the drama is over with, at worst, no harm done,

if the team needs to rebuild, why is it handing out horrible cap crunching 4 yr deal to one dimensional role players like THJR?

Because the team doesn't view him as a role player? They view him as a future allstar.
perception is everything.

Without the THJR deal I would have really really liked this offseason. We got younger, added some assets and likely improved our draft position. More importantly no more drama etc. No let us just hope that Hardaway plays well so that we may find a taker in two years or so.

No guarantee Melo opts out. He has shown he values money over most anything. Not sure he leaves 28m on the table for one season when he doesnt get close to that on the open market. Keeping him on a team with young guys we are trying to develop is counterproductive, and he hurts the tank. We are clearly going after a top 5 pick in this draft. His presence hinders that. Lastly, you assume we would get a better haul...when? From who? The three teams he seemed willing to go to would suddenly add...what? To add no long term salary, to get a top 35 pick, and to FINALLY move in the direction of youth...not sure how anyone can be pissed at this move. When people are furious over not getting Alex Abrines or whatever, you have to wonder if any trade would have been met with this type of reaction.

How about in Detroit for Tobias Harris? Same age and plays a position we need
thats exactly what I was thinking
You think Brooklyn might want him?
They only have Mozgov and Zeller at center, we'd have to take back Carroll, but maybe we get a pick out of it?
I dunno, but we can definitely trade him for something, unlike Anderson

Kanter is a solid player and may net us a mid first round pick at the deadline or on draft day. The Bulls pick will be 30-35 which is very solid and McDermott is an ok throw in. Cap Space preserved. I do think that this is very solid value for Melo at this point. Well done.
