This is an issue - a big issue.

If you keep the pick and spend heavily on 2 FA's -- you are basically adding 3 pieces.

If you trade down - potentially moving Calderon in the process in order to pick up 2 pieces (traded for player and lower pick). You are basically adding 4 pieces with the potential for more or better players with the extra Calderon cap relief.

I understand the argument that the #4 pick represents the most (up-side) bang for the buck but it's quite possible Phil views the impact of a WCS as having more impact on the team.

This...these trade proposals to trade down are fking lame.... Im not trading down unless I get a star player back.. or someone with crazy potential

Yes, because moving down 2 or three spots warrants that.

honestly you can't believe this...

1. how the f*ck does chad freakin ford know?

2. what advantages does provide the knicks to leak who they want. If Chad Ford is getting this information from a league source that it is probably planned by the knicks to drum up interest from the teams behind them with interest in WCS for possible trades.

Ford does know some things though. Pretty sure he had us being very interested in Timmy. Also had us taking Shump, Gallo, Wilson, and Frye in his mocks before the draft I believe. Maybe the leaks have stopped with Phil, but I do think we are interested in Willie, unless Phil was talking out of his butt. Wark was also scouting Kentucky hard all year.

Hasn't been much discussion of us liking Mudiay, which may be a smokescreen or not. There's plenty of signs pointing to Winslow/Stein or trading the pick though. Going to be a funny month so strap on baby.

You may be right on these points I'm not sure but he sure seems to play hard - my question is will he play smart.

The thing I think some are understating with Willie is that he often played away from the basket defensively at UK.
I think he will play closer to the rim/lane at the NBA level and I think you may see his rebounding and shot-blocking increase.

I think he is a suspect post defender right now but with time I don't see why he can't become outstanding in that aspect. He also got toasted off the dribble by Kaminsky in the championship game -- I think that can be corrected as well as he basically over-reacted and bit on ball fakes and spin moves.

With his size/athleticism/length and motor I think it's just a matter of time that he becomes a beast.

I also think he's got some significant upside offensively. I doubt he's ever a true post up player but he'll be able to put the ball in the basket.

WCS can definitely be good in the NBA. I just think that the things that he'll require to be good in the league we currently don't have: a point guard to set him up, a fast paced offense, good perimeter defense so that he's not out there on an island, and patience.

mpharris36 wrote:a theory could also be that the kings desperately want to move ahead of the magic to draft WCS.

Collison, McLemore, Gay, WCS, and Cousins would be a pretty solid 5 for sacremento.

The knicks know Orlando would then either take Porzingas or Winslow. You obviously run the risk of Orlando trading out of 5 and someone picking mudiay at 5. But Phil could be more than Comfortable with landing Winslow at 6 if Mudiay doesn't fall there.

In the process you could probably get some decent assets (maybe 1 or 2) and possible shed calderons deal to free up 2 max spots which could be Phil's real goal.

You would have close to 35 million to spend and could possibly go and offer 2 max deals as a 2 for 1 offer.

There is absolutely no advantages to leaking who you want to pick before the draft. There is however advantages to leaking info to get teams worried and make trades.

Yeah - I mean this is the most attractive situation to me.

Someone below us wants to ensure they get their guy and we benefit by picking up extra assets and still getting a high pick.

Maybe it's Porzingis, maybe WCS, maybe Winslow -- who knows but if we can sneak another (extra) starter out of the draft that's what I'm hoping for.

That said - quite content with one of the top 4 if we just sit tight but hoping some intriguing offers start being presented.

If we had just finished the year 33-49 or something like that and y'all are talking about trading down or picking up WCS/Winslow...then I got u, but we just finished with 60+ Ls. The Knicks need a cheap player with all star potential on the roster above anything else.

All I have to say about this WCS report is that it is pure stupidity to draft him at #4.

And more evidence that PJ is stuck in 2001.

the key thing is that is all under old regime where we were leak city. Whether you like Phil or don't like Phil. We haven't leaked jack since he has been here. The trades have come out of nowhere and our draft picks last year we really didn't know until we picked as well.

it's really still not enough to move the "mudiay" selection because what is Collison and McLemore really going to help us with? We don't need to worry about depth right now. We need a 2nd and 3rd star. Hopefully the rookie will be one and then we gotta pray to land a big FA.

Yeah man. We need to nail this pick. A glue guy at #4 isn't gonna get it done.

Maybe if we didn't believe in Mudiay and were sold on Portz. But hell no to using our pick on Willie Jared Jeffries Cauley Stein and scraps.

because he seemingly is worried about more then just making sure the knicks are good. he's worried about how the triangle is perceived and he mocks how teams currently play the game. phil only wants to win if it's his way.
