Re: [Camelo Thread] - Update: He's Pushing for Knicks! Part 5
Before we get all excited. Know this much Carmelo Anthony does not know how to play poker. With all these questions, he can simply say I will no longer be answering any questions about trade talk or free agency. Instead he is making it abundantly clear he wants to sign an extension this year and not reach free agency. He said that would be the first thing that gets done. If I am Denver I can keep him until after the trade deadline February 24 and he will re-sign with Denver (he is just bluffing) or I trade him to the Nets for the package they were getting. If Denver trades him to any team he will re-sign there and then complain about wanting a trade to another team.

If we trade for Melo, and dont trade Chandler he will still want a big contract at the end of the year. Dont you think that will intefere with capspace and need? Do we really need to keep another Scoring SF?

As much as we talk about those guys in Miami being pre-madonna's. I am not liking what I am hearing from Stoudemire. Amare' went sipped on truth serum last week, saying if Cleveland had done the trade for him he would have re-singed. If Jersey came after him with some money he would be goen to Jersey. Amare and Carmelo and the guys who appear to be about the money, nothing wrong with that

Gallo and Chandler both play off the ball. But Chandler just does it better. He slashes to the rim unlike Gallo who hides in the corner. They hit about the same pct from 3. And Chandler contributes more on defense and rebounding too. Chandler is a more active player and better no matter who's around him.

WTF, why do people keep mentioning Chandler's contract situation as a reason to dump him over Gallo?
You guys do realize that once we acquire Melo, we'll have zero cap space to work with anyway, and at that point, we can go over the cap to resign our players as we see fit.
Unless some of you are still holding onto the CP3/Melo/Amare dream, there is no reason to consider Chandler's upcoming FA as a factor of who we should give up in a Melo trade.
Also, the reason I'd prefer to keep Chandler over Gallo is simple. If we get Melo, then Gallo or Chandler would have to come off the bench, cause continuing with Amare at C is a recipe for failure down the line. And imo, Chandler is the better and more versatile player off the bench.

Question: If we resign Chandler and Melo, can we still get a Center?

I think Gallinari's FT #'s would beg to differ.

Sure, trade Chandler to get one.

If the Knicks TRADE for 'Melo and re-sign Chandler, they'd have the MLE (around $5.8m) to use towards one.
if they do NOT trade for or sign 'Melo, they'd likely have around $15m to resign Chandler AND spend in other areas as you wish.

I think fans need to come to grips that on a team with Melo chances are at least one of these guys ain't gonna be here, and very possible neither of them considering we still need to make a few more moves to finish upgrading the roster...

My prediction is:
Chandler, Randolph (or pick using Randolph), Curry, Azabukie
for
Melo
sign me up.
this would be a steal.

A couple of things to point out:
1. I wonder what "gutting the team" means to Donnie. He said he would not gut the team but obviously, his definition could be different than ours.
2. For those of you who were thinking we were trying to get a big 3 as well, that was never the plan. Donnie this weekend said that he did not think that building like Miami did is the only way to do it and mentioned depth as a more important factor. His goal was always to get 2 stars and have depth around them. If we get Melo during the season, I am convinced, we will start making moves to go deep into the playoffs as early as this season.

Yes I think 2 with depth is better than 3 no depth. Boston has an ideal situation that is very hard to re-create.

Exactly. Contract and cap space isnt a good argument against Chandler because we will have to re-up Gallo soon anyway. If we're comitting to Melo we will have no cap space for years with or without Chandler.

If we don't resign Chandler and get Melo we are in the same boat anyway. I don't see how trading Chandler for Melo or not resigning him effects us getting a C.
Once we get Melo our cap space is gone.

Well if we trade for Melo, were going to have to give up either Gallo or Chandler in the trade. I dont think theirs anyway were keeping both unless Fields is involved with picks etc..

I'm not trading anyone from the starting lineup for Melo.
