Question:
If it were Lebron on the Cavs and they said last years's deadline, they'd trade him to us if we took on Jamison and Mo Williams for Lee, Gallo, Wil, Hill, Jeffries, Eddy, two draft picks and cash (the farm)....would we do it, reading the tea leaves saying Lebron is DEFINITELY coming via free agency?

Hell no. Not without and extension, I don't think for a second Donnie does that trade. Let the russian trade for Melo without an extension. The leverage the nuggets have is the expiration of the current cba, that's all the leverage the nuggets really have. Sure they would be able to tell them you can trade me to wherever because at the end of the season i will explore my options and sign to wherever i want to go. How funny would it be if the Nets do the deal without an extension and a carmelo waits to see what happens with the cba because he has up until June 30th to sign. David Stern then comes out and states that we are gonna give ourselves more time to hammer out a more equitable agreement so we will extend the current cba for one more year. I think the Nets would go up in smoke because then Melo doesn't have to sign the extension he can become a free agent. Proky aint taking that into consideration that the players and the owners can agree to extend it for one more season which for some reason I think is what may happen

Danny Granger's a poor man's Wilson Chandler. At least, this year.

Broussard didn't specify name, just said Agent. I assume it's Rose. :dontknow:

Supposedly Rose could be his old agent if he doesn't get Melo moved. Scuttlebutt is Rose doing all the talking with Wesley and Player Agents leaking info. I think Melo just wants out at this point money in hand close to home.

^Yep totally agree, that's why I said that too, cause I hadn't heard it become official yet that Melo let him go.

What evidence do we have that we can no longer trade AR for a pick? Last we heard, Donnie said he could get one.

Or are you implying that AR's value has dropped too far, because of the way he's played?

You read my comment and ask yourself what I could have possibly been saying. If you need help, then something is seriously wrong.

You're making three assumptions:

(1) Donnie can no longer get a 1st rounder for AR
because:
(2) AR's value has dropped
because:
(3a) D'Antoni didn't play him enough
or
(3b) AR has played poorly

Am I right? Or was your first post sarcasm?

Outside of individuals thinking Walsh is a liar, we have nothing to suggest that #1 is true, so the other two are moot.

I assume as the deal nears completion that would come with Denver's permission. ;)

Leon Rose driving this. Agent saying Melo will sign extension.

-- Jay-Z and Prok will sit down with Melo to try and convince him.

Leon Rose is also Richard Hamilton's agent so it's not surprising to see him trying to kill two birds with one stone. In fact, if you think about it, it's probably three !
If the trade happens, he will make three of his clients happy :
- Rip Hamilton wants to leave Detroit and would love to play for a (future) playoff team
- Ty Lawson will have a chance to start and showcase himself in Denver after Billups is traded
- Melo will have his extension and enjoy the life in NY with his wife

That's probably the main reason Leon Rose's pushing for NJ. If Melo is traded to NY, the Knicks won't take Billups and Hamilton.

magnumt wrote:-- Prok MAY do the Trade without garuntee to get Melo, but Broussard thinks that would be the dumbest move ever in the NBA.

Leon Rose is also Chris Paul's agent. The contracts they would trade for (Billups and Hamilton) will expire in 2012 (same year Paul will become a FA). There's a possibility Rose may help the Nets, try to convince Melo to resign with Nets next july and he will also do his best to convince Chris Paul to go to NJ and join Melo in 2012. I'm sure Leon Rose probably told the Nets he will help them acquire Paul if they trade for Melo now.

It would be a massive gamble to trade for Melo without an extend and trade agreement but I guess the Nets think if they can retain Melo then they also have a pretty good shot at Paul later in 2012. It probably explains their reluctance to accept Al Harrington's contract in the trade.

magnumt wrote:-
-- There is some thinking within the NJ Orginization that they're bright with their Future, and should stay pat and not gut the Team.

Obviously they shouldn't gut their roster in a desperate attempt to acquire Melo but the Nets (and their russian owner) desperately need a star player if they want to become our rivals. Melo would make the Nets respectable and obviously he would put fans in the seats. I don't think Prokhorov bought the team to be patient and rebuild with young players and lottery picks anyway.

That said, I doubt the Nets will make the trade without Melo signing an extension. It will be tempting for Prokhorov to have his 15 minutes of fame with Melo but I don't think he will pull the trigger unless Melo agrees to sign an extension. In that case, the Nets will definitely cave in and accept to give up lots of assets to acquire him but they probably think they can "easily" get Chris Paul if they already have Melo under contract until 2015.

So 2 and 3b would be the most obvious one, right? Smh.
