I'd consider maybe keeping Woody on as an assistant coach, but I'd prefer a new head coach. He's just so unimaginative offensively. And it's not like this is the first time we've seen this. He was the same way for years in Atlanta where he'd forcefeed one player (Joe Johnson) and freeze out the rest of the team. We need a better head coach. I do think the team isn't put together right and the pieces don't really fit, but there's nothing we can do about it for the foreseeable future. We have to continue our search for a coach that can make this mess work. Maybe give Brian Shaw a look? He was with Phil for quite some time.

We need someone thats gonna fit all these pieces together, This is the team we are stuck with for the forseeable future. Is Woodson the guy to do that? Do you want 3 years of Woodson when our players are in thier prime? I so hope we can get Jackson.

ISO ISO ISO is not going to work. He is just not the right coach. we need to play as a team. we have JLin next year, an up coming PG so we need to find a coach we can take advantage of this and make the TEAM work, not just Melo.
Maybe Phil doesn't need a PG in his system but he is one of the greatest and he never really had a decent PG on his teams anyway, let's see what he can do with JLin, Amare and Melo + tyson.
If he is not coming, go all out for Sloan.
If Sloan refuse, try Bull's current coach (can't spell his name). If this fails, well, good luck anyway with Woodson.
What's sad to me is that we could have had them BOTH. Harvard learning from one of the GOAT.

Now we have Fat learning from Drunk.

Kobe and Mike isolated a ton under Phil.

Honestly, no. Do not get me wrong, he has been great. But his offense coaching is not going to win anything. Hope I am wrong.

I think it's best to bump this thread after the Knicks season comes to an end.

At present, I have no problem with Woody. We lost two games on the road to a more talented team. Not to mention we had to overcome an injured backcourt, a center with a severe case of the flu, and referees with an agenda.

I simply can't forget that Woodson, in the midst of turmoil, took a sub .500 ballclub facing a tough second half schedule, and guided them to an 18-6 finish with key players missing down the stretch. Forgive me if I'm not ready to throw him under the bus just yet.

I don't think his style of basketball wins in this league ... I think you need an offensive system so the offense doesn't degenerate into guys dribbling for 14 seconds only to chuck up a bad shot like ours does

I would see what's out there this summer .... and it doesn't have to be phil jackson

Will Melo be happy if we don't bring back the coach he endorses and the system he seems to enjoy playing under though?

In this league, superstar always > coach.

No Lin
No Shump
Ty Chandler playing at 40%
Amare back
Diddy playing half crippled

You expect his team to beat Miami with this?

What the Knicks need to do is trade Amare for a decent PF who plays D and a SG/SF so we can have said SG/SF off the bench to replace Smith

I'm all for a new coach though, as long as they COACH DEFENSE!

Maybe he could hire an offensive specialist. I think it would work better offensively vs how Woodson was used defensively because they will always be forced to play D under him

We need role players around Lin, Shump, Melo, and Chandler

The reason I ask is because it's easy to trade Amare for some mythical PF who plays D and swingman off the bench, but I think if you actually look for actual players who fit that mold to trade for, you'll see moving Amare isn't happening.

I still like Woodson. He didn't make Chandler get the flu or Shump blow out his knee. This was always going to be tough for him. He had to go from dopey D'Antoni ball to a real basketball team. I thought he did very well in the regular season. I did not expect the Knicks to play as well as they did under him. I think he's a good hard nosed coach---the question is...Do we have players on this roster that want to play defense?

Whether or not he should be retained, Shump's injury, Chandler's illness, Amare's bad judgment, Lin's absence are not on him. He did a good job until fate intervened, so we'll never be able to use these playoffs as a fair basis for judging him.

He definitely deserves to be renewed. It's not his fault Melo is sucking and trying to match LeBron.

Also not his fault Lin went down, and Amare self-imploded.

Also Chandler getting the Flu is not his fault.

Give the man major credit for what he's been able to do.
