Just in case anyone was curious as to what the actual odds are of being able to guess all the brackets correctly (basically guessing all 63 of the outcomes perfectly)?

This estimate is from a Duke mathematician...

"It's roughly 1 in 10 pentillion."

For those that have never heard the measure 'pentillion' (not even when Dr. Evil mentioned asked for 1 gazillion, babillion, scooba-doo-ba-doo-shamma-lama-illion' from the world to not drill a whole to the center of the earth and launch volcanoes in the Austin Powers movie) it's probably because the number is astronomical even for a mad scientist. One 'pentillion' is equal to 1 billion billion so basically talking about 1 in 10 billion billion.

The odds on winning the Powerball in comparison is roughly 1 in 175 million...or a small tiny fraction of 1 in 10 billion billion.

The chances of someone winning this is along the lines of everyone in the world, without rehearsal or previous plans all at the same split second jumping in the air and leaving no human touching the earth for that moment in time.

Trying to drive traffic...and revenue...it's why he's got so much money. That and putting all his money into self directed IRA's that he then uses to invest in real estate tax free (why they said his secretary was in a higher tax bracket than he was).

Yeah, I get that everything he does is about getting his money. My issue is if you are going to part with a Billion dollars:

1) Make it something worthwhile like giving one thousand families of children who excel academically $1,000,000 (people forget a billion dollars is a million dollars x1000)

and

2) Make it achievable. An impossible where the participants are sure to get nothing and you are guaranteed to grow your stack is despicable.

Oh absolutely. But to Warren Buffets defense he's donated billions of dollars in his career to charities. Here's the largest ($30.7 billion)...

Of course, he did end up benefiting for the record shattering tax shelter this resulted in. :D

And bless him for the Billions in donations (which otherwise go unnoticed). But I still believe that if you are announcing that you are giving away a thousand Billion dollars, you may want to look better in your choice. a Damned NCAA Bracket... :nonono:

Glad Melo won't retire even if he wins a billion. I wonder if he'd still go for the Max though.

The odds of winning the lottery is better than guessing the exact winners of 32 games, then 16 games, then 8 games, then 4 games and then 2 games.

we will discuss the odds after I win a billion dollars

Oh I don't know...a genius method to get 15 million people to voluntarily give their personal info that can be used by Quicken Loans... plus Buffet earning a hefty fee for insuring the contest was probably one of the easiest investments he's ever made.

Plus, Buffet himself said if there's still someone with a perfect bracket heading into the final 4, he'd offer them a deal, instead of rolling the dice on the last 3 games (assuming Quicken Loans OKs it). So if by some miracle someone ends up with a perfect bracket, there won't be a billion dollar payout (since no one in their right mind would turn down whatever the offer is).

Great marketing ploy by Buffett.

You have to submit your phone # to play. A list of millions of phone #s is worth a ton for any service industry.
