Was that actually how somebody phrased it?
The Hardaway move seemed almost like a payback move. Obviously Phil didn't like him and somebody else in the org did. I hope they give Frank a fair shake. There's a chance he becomes a unique and special player. A PG version of Iggy or Tayshaun Prince who does a lot more than his box scores tell you.
Did you get a chance to talk to Clarance Gaines and if so whether it seemed like he was a part of the team going forward?

Re: New York Knicks Summer League Notes
Another thing. There were several tweets about off the record quotes from scouts/execs saying how impressed they are with Dotson as a shooter, his body, athleticism, rebounding, Horny said he has a good feel for the game, and there were suggestions he can step in and contribute right way. Yet now this dude source suggests D.Dot will toil in the G-League. I am calling bullschit.

We're taking a page out of the Hawks playbook. Put Dotson in the G-League and then he'll magically come out of it a $70M-plus-trade-kicker shooting guard

I wasn't recording the conversation, so I am paraphrasing here but what was said was "We like the kid. He'll be good. But he might be more of a fit for what Phil wanted to run vs what we are going to run. So, it might take longer than we all want and other guys might have fit a little better."
And some version of that was said by a few folks.
I only talked to him briefly. The entire staff is operating as if they are there to stay, but you can sense they all have no real idea what is going on.
On Hardaway, lots of people do like him in the organization.

On Baker: A lot of times the team will spin it in the media so the player looks favorable. But the word was he was open to playing and the team was fine with letting his FA situation play out. By the time it had, the week was basically done.

Seems people think Frank may be more of a project than your average rookie but i dont mind that. Hes got all the tools and work ethic to really blossom down the line. Dante Exum even been showing his most development this past summer league which is his is 3rd/4th year. For the begining of his career Frank can contribute as more of a 3 and D player while keeping his responsibilities manageable. Or just start him and throw him into the fire. What do i know.

Can we get some more clarification on Dotson? What exactly didn't they like about the guy?

It wasn't that they didn't like him. The feeling was he had favorable matchups most of the week. He didn't go against NBA level guys all that often. He needs to get more consistent with his outside shot, because the driving lanes he had this week won't be there in the NBA. And his defense needs work. He regularly lost his man when he was off the ball.
And the NBAGL is going to become much more of a tool going forward. The teams, especially those are in the same immediate vicinity, will use it like the minors in baseball, but with tweaks. Dotson will practice with the Knicks all the time, but will likely play several games with Westchester.

You do realize he shot like 48% from three in Summer League right? If that is not consistent then iono what is...

The coaching staff probably is expecting dots to nail like 70% of his shots against GLeagers for them to be believers. hahaha

Re: New York Knicks Summer League Notes
This quote from coach Hornacek is all I need to read/hear to verify that "source" is either talking out his ass or a straight up H8R!:
“He can really shoot the ball, he’s athletic,” Jeff Hornacek said. “I wasn’t quite sure how his feel for the game is but his feel for the game has been great in these scrimmages. He’s making the right passes at the right time and he’s one of those guys when he gets an open look at it you’re pretty confident he’s going to make it.”

I was there again.
And, same as always, these aren't my thoughts. All things that were told to me. If it was my thought, I would have clarified it as such.
FWIW, Dotson was good, but it is SL. A lot of the things he did, he wouldn't be able to do in the league.
And Kornet did finish better around the rim than expected. He also gave solid rim protection and moved well as the roll man in PnR. That is where I think that came from.
Thanks. It's great to "read it here first," considering that our Knicks forum isn't making you rich for doing this.
