I honestly think the only reason Rambis is here is because Mills is very sensitive to firing another coach or anyone where it would mean eating salary. They did it with Phil, but that's it. Rambis gone after this year - I'm assuming he has a contract that runs to the end of the season.

Rambis was top assistant with the Lakers and has a lot knowledge about the game. You wont expect to be a good D team with the **** players we've had. And he was a good player, too...

There are no other opportunities lol. Rambis is like Herb Williams, he's not going anywhere.

He was a top assistant with Phil running the team with 2 GOAT players on the roster...so, yeah, I'm not taking that as being worth much. Also, you can be a good player and be a **** coach / GM.

What is Rambis even good at? Why is he here since chief triangle is gone?

Re: Jeff Hornacek says associate head coach Kurt Rambis won’t run Knicks defense this season
I am glad he was removed from the defensive coordinator role, it was a change that needed to happen. There was no way the players from last year had ANY faith left tin the mans abilities. Now, that said I do not think it is enough, his relationship with Jeff aside we gain nothing by keeping him here and I think as a sign of good faith eliminating Phil's boy from the team would send just the right message to the players.

This is very bad for the tank. I think with the changes Jeff is making, we're gonna be a lot better this year than people expect.

He ain't an imbecile like many here try to illustrate. I would prefer Pop, Bud, JVG, Blatt, Carlisle, Ollie or Izzo here, but with Jeff and youngins, we shouldn't even bother.

Every time I hear Rambis' name I think of the scene from the Rock's movie Central Intelligence where the big secret service agent hands Kevin Harts character a tablet supposedly with evidence that Bob Stone is a traitor and instead it's logged into porn hub.

He's not an imbecile? Have you seen the defenses he's been "running" the last few years? What he ran in Minnesota? When he doesn't have top notch talent, he's absolute garbage...and the fact that the defenses where he was the "lead defensive coordinator" were good doesn't mean anything to me considering the talent he had then - the defense was pressure outside and funnel to the bigs. That's it. His rings also mean nothing. Horry has rings...who cares?

Re: Jeff Hornacek says associate head coach Kurt Rambis won’t run Knicks defense this season
"We've decided to all be available to talk to about defense, doing it by committee."
Number of times a Knick player approaches Rambis to talk about defense this year.
2
1.) Courtney Lee has a question regarding a defensive set he really wants the answer to. Checks the line by Hornacek -3 players deep.
Corey Gaines - 3 players deep. Jerry Sichting - 4 players deep. Howard Eisley - 4 players deep. Checks Rambis. Zero players on his line. Says to himself, "Wtf, I'll ask Kurt"
2.) Enes Kanter feels bad for Rambis that no one has asked him a defensive question all year, asks him one during a practice near the game 65 mark.

Rambis, who replaced Derek Fisher as interim head coach two seasons ago, will benefit from Carmelo Anthony’s departure. Anthony wasn’t fond of Rambis and helped lobby against him getting the permanent position. Anthony and Rambis reportedly sparred verbally in the locker room at halftime of a game in Brooklyn in March over the team’s defensive woes.
Rambis is the last vestige of Derek Fisher’s original staff and stayed on after Phil Jackson’s dismissal because of his past friendship with Hornacek. They were teammates in Phoenix. Josh Longstaff, whom Fisher brought from Oklahoma City, was let go over the summer. Though a favorite of Kristaps Porzingis, Longstaff, according to sources, didn’t blend in well with the rest of the group.

He has a way of handling players," Jackson said of Rambis recently, via the Daily News. "He's relaxed yet he has the ability to keep them focused on the important parts of it. He's a defensive-oriented guy. I had him as my defensive coordinator for my teams in 2007, eight and nine. And I think he has a real good handle on that part. So we'll see how they go."
Let's ne fair man... we suck as a team... we didnt give effort, and Jeff even questioned the talent of the roster. Those above are words of the most succesfull coach in the NBA. Tex was the offensive coordinator while Kurt on the other side.
Many coaches have failed badly, but that doesnt mean that they are clueless and/or not knowledgable!
All assistants of Phil have failed in one way or another... thats another topic and needs to be analysed for sure
