I mean to be fair this is at least a smart hire. David Blatt is one of the brightest basketball minds in the world and I'm glad he's healthy enough to help us out.

The way I'm reading it is he's in a similar role that Jerry West is in with the Clippers. Essentially an advisor to Mills and Perry.

Nothing, at least relating to him actually coaching. He retired from coaching and he has MS so coaching is probably not gonna happen for him again. The fact that he's tight with Mills is the thing to be a bit wary on. Great basketball mind, but does this mean Mills is fine? That would be very bad.

How bad is his MS? I know you are supposed to avoid stress as much as possible with MS but I know of a few people who are highly functional and work high level professions with MS.

He has MS. He isn't coaching. This is a very good hire in and of itself because Blatt is a great basketball mind. His connection to Mills sours the hire.

I'm not a doctor but I would assume a job as stressful as NBA coach would be terrible for someone with the disease. This seems like a straight consulting gig.

Shams said he's also tight with Craig Robinson, so we have to pray that that's the reason he's here (fat chance). I still think Mills is a goner after this season.

It seems this has more to do with Craig Robinson and the scouting department. Robinson is attached at the hip to Allan Houston. Still expect Houston to take control at some point. Maybe before the trade deadline.

Conjecture but I see this as Mills throwing Perry under the bus.
Mills always wanted to hire Blatt as head coach. Both Phil and Perry shot him down.
Now Blatt has a job with the team.

Always thought of Mills as the execution guy and Perry as the basketball guy.
Mills probably sold to Dolan that the plan was sound but the man behind the basketball side chose the wrong players (this is something I don't necessarily disagree with)
Now bringing in a new basketball mind - one that Mills can put the blame on later.

A: Miller and Blatt are GREAT hires. Both are great basketball minds and are winners.

B. They will literally save Mills job when we had him almost out the door.

If you guys are confident he's not gonna interfere with Miller then having someone like Blatt on staff can only be a positive.
