I think I'm going to go out and buy some booze and celebrate tonight while watching the Knicks kick some butt against the Hornets. This is a great and historic day. Let's put some icing on it and enjoy the victory.

Each count carries a different maximum sentence: 40 years for second-degree unintentional murder, 25 years for third-degree murder, and 10 years for second-degree manslaughter

Not sure about the minimum, but if the judge combines the verdicts it should amount to life in prison

Tactically stupid for him not to take the stand. But that's legal and apologies which are not that important. Can't do what he did period.

It was pretty much on camera, not much he could say at that point. Better strategy to make himself small as possible and hope the jury buys the act.

This is justice, but things definitely need to change.

Until the administration and the DOJ make sweeping changes to reform the police and "pull out the weeds from the rose garden", there will be no true justice.

Let's hope this is the start of a bigger change.

I disagree. I think that his attorney focusing on the reasonableness of Chauvin's restraint of Floyd as opposed to focusing to "proximate cause" during his closing argument was the big mistake. He was never going to get a jury to believe that placing the knee on Floyd's neck for that long a period of time and under those circumstances was "reasonable" in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I think that he had a much better shot at a better result if he had focused on all of the other possibilities of causation.

Well he can take stand and say I was trying to keep control and went too far, I'm sorry. Take his licks from the prosecution. But again doesn't matter. Just legal chatter.

The Biden administration is definitely working on this already. Garland killed a Trump DOJ memo that neutered Consent Decrees used to clean up police departments.

Yeah but jurors are still allowed to be emotional. I'm sure they wanted to hear from him. But most likely nothing he could do and hindsight is 2020.

The Minnesota police testifying against one of their own was huge in moving the needle. I think/hope that we'll now see some real change.

Also, more good news, the officer who shot Walter Scott five times in the back while he ran from the officer, killing Scott, just upheld his 20 year sentence.
