Re: THJ
Can’t lie, THJ looks great in Dallas. Too bad we were in shambles during his time here.
I don’t regret trading him, because he would’ve been useless here up until this year.
Also, it’s looking like THJ was really the prize in that trade. It’s crazy that he’s now better than KP.

Re: THJ
At 5'9 with bad knees and a 2" vertical at this point, I'd look amazing at basketball with Luca as my teammate.
THJr was just given too big of a role here.
He should be a #3 option on a solid, not contending, team. He is just that in Dallas, that's why he's looking better than in NY.
He actually would fit nicely, now, in NY. I'd be okay with him if the Knicks also went out and got a very high level PG, first.

Took him playing with one of the top players in the game to finally look decent. I'll still pass.

The guy has turned into arguably the Mav's second best player and the best asset that went out in the KP trade. What was seen as a negative asset at the time has turned into gold for them and we should have gotten value back for him. I never was a detractor of Timmy and thought that $18 million wasn't a bad contract for him. He was still young, could shoot the lights out, was clutch and was drafted by us. Yeah he made some boneheaded plays here and there but imagine if he had been given a chance under Thibs? Thibs might have turned him into a legit two way player.
I think Timmy was a victim of the classic fan impatience we have here with young players. He was never given the patience that Frank was given.
Not even Frank was given any patience. Kid never got consistent minutes his whole career.
The Knicks have been patient with Knox though up until this season. And RJ, but he's showed potential.
The two times THJ was here, he just never had a good playmaker like Luka to set him up. He tried to do too much here and was never held accountable. Same thing for Julius Randle last season. He was putting up numbers but he was undisciplined and not contributing to wins. The coaching and the culture you build for the team makes a big difference.
I meant more patience from the fans. There are a lot of people who still have hopes for Frank while THJ had a decent rookie year, then somehow the fans started turning on him after that. During his second stint he never seemed to get into their good books. He was always viewed as a no-defense, low-IQ and overpaid player pretty much his whole time here.
Because that's what he was at that time?
Also, frustration with players is generally the fans being pissed off at the FO - not 100%, but a lot of the time.
Like, maybe THJr would've been fine here without that stupid contract. For instance.

Obviously KP was the better defender. But offensively, they were about the same.
In 2017-18, KP's TS% was .539. Timmy's was .533. Timmy was a much better passer.
Timmy has become a good player in Dallas and he has probably surpassed KP as a two-way player, especially since KP now gets targeted in the pick-and-roll defensively.
I'm very happy for him. He's a class act who always got treated unfairly by most of the fans as a Knick.
Because at that time, KP was THEORETICALLY a player a team might be able to build around, while most of the fans recognized THjr for the 3rd option he was, basically because he'd had time to prove that, while KP still had that "new player smell" on him.
And, as I posted a moment earlier, fans were pissed that Mills was laying out scare dollars on the 3rd/4th option type of guys (not include 18th option kind of guys like Ron Baker) before even getting the proven main guy.

Re: THJ
The problem was that Hardway was given a contract that was obviously out of proportion to his skill level and value at the time - and then proved unable to justify it on the court. That led to the majority of fans' perception of him as a player with an albatross contract. That he looks much more viable alongside an elite scorer and playmaker should not come as a surprise. You overpay a Hardaway when he's the last piece of the puzzle.

Re: THJ
Hmm if THJ played here like he did in Dallas, I’d have no issues. Maybe he got a big head once he got that ridiculous contract?
Only thing I’m willing to admit if what I’ve always thought. If the Knicks had tanked that year, they would have been the ones in position for Luka, the guy THJ actually owes half his salary to. Scott Perry knows **** about winning culture. He’s lucky his ass got saved by Thibs and Randle.

Luka can make players look better. They have Luka and we haven’t had a real PG in decades

Re: THJ
I'm happy for Tim. I used to take a ton of chit on here for defending him, but I'm happy he found his stride in Dallas after it looked bad towards the end here. Unfortunately, his success means KP succeeds too so it puts a damper on everything THJ does.
Will be interesting to see what his market is this summer. Theoretically he'd be a pretty big offensive upgrade on the wing for us. THJ round 3 would be quite comical but with Randle here and if the Knicks could get a guy like Lowry or another good playmaker THJ would be a great 3rd or 4th option for us to stretch the floor and have a little more off the dribble chops than Reggie.

Let's see whether Dallas extends him and at what price. We had a whole lot of role players over the year that stayed in the league for a really long time. The main issue was not having the top dogs followed by not having a decent front office/coaching staff to put them in good use. Channing Frye, Crawford, ZBo, Gallo, Ariza, David Lee, Wilson Chandler all had decent careers in this league after they left the Knicks.

Re: THJ
Wasn’t built for New York, had too big a role and took his own mistakes out on teammates. He and trier were funny in retrospect. They would both force selfish offense and then argue with each other over whose lazy defense caused the next bucket. His success in low pressure markets doesn’t change the fact that he was a bad signing. Wrong time and wrong place.

Re: THJ
His time on the Hawks had already showed that he could be a solid player in the right role on a good team with a decent coach. And then we overpaid him to play a bigger role on a bad team with two bad coaches, and never held him accountable. It was a mistake at the time and with the benefit of hindsight it was still a mistake. Trading him was the right move -- his shot selection and defense were garbage here and he had negative trade value with another 2.5 years left on his deal.
I'm glad to see him doing well again, but as someone else said, Burks is a better (and cheaper) fit for our current team.

Re: THJ
Timmy was always a decent role player with some faults. He got caught up in the tanking obsession where anyone that can hit a shot is public enemy #1.
Also, Knicks fans always need someone to irrationally hate whether its blaming every loss on Payton's 4 minutes per half or trashing Randle on each play last year.

Re: THJ
It was always the role we had Timmy in. When he was behind Melo, JR and whoever he was solid. Was also pretty solid as KPs second option. It only until he had to be the main man and work for all of his points did he start to do a lot more harm than good. Plus we never had a great playmaker to get him the easy looks Luka is getting him

Payton's 8 minutes might have been the difference in a 2-point game.
Randle admitted himself he let the team down last year. He deserved the criticism from the fans, and he knows it.
I agree that Timmy was unfortunately the easy scapegoat. He was thrust in a role he couldn't fill - that's on Mills moreso than Timmy. Not that he was perfect and exempt from criticism.
