I've been pretty consistent in thinking I don't think he really should, and same goes for Grimes

Because ahead of Deuce is Kemba and Rose, and Burks/Quick fill the role of emergency PG if they get into foul trouble or have to miss a game. Then we have pretty solid wings overall, so I can't see Grimes cracking the rotation either. Everything he can do, Burks does better right now, then Fournier is just the better version of Burks, and RJ is RJ.

I honestly think that even if someone goes down for an extended period, we just shorten the rotation and carry on. The only way I can see Deuce getting minutes is if both Kemba and Rose are out at the same time, and even then, it's likely Thibs just starts Burks at PG, like last year

So with that being said, I don't think them getting 2-3 minutes at the end of a blowout once every week or two is the best for their development, I think we should just send them down to the G League and let them play however many games are in a G League schedule. It's also likelier we do it, cause they're not gonna play right away like Obi last year anyways, and it's not like with Frank/Knox where we were too proud to send top 10 picks down, Deuce and Grimes were late 1st/early 2nd round picks

Getting 20-30 minutes a night in the G League would be much better for their development imo. Though playing at the NBA level would be best, but we're not in a position where we want to sacrifice wins for development, and it's not as stupid as it used to be cause we do have a pretty solid team this year.

I'll add that the Knicks went and used up a G-League roster slot on Brandon Knight.
Do I want Knight to play over McBride or even consume a single minute away from IQ? No.
But IF the Knicks find themselves in a situation where it looks like Rose and Kemba will miss more than a couple of game together at the same time, I don't think they'd pivot to IQ and McBride running the point.
It would be IQ and Knight.

Knight is the emergency 3rd PG. Well, 3.5, since IQ is 1/2 a PG right now.

I wouldn’t rule out Grimes getting minutes at some point in the season. Thibs playing him over Fournier in crunch time was quite telling. And then the way Thibs spoke about him after the game makes it seem like he isn’t gonna ride the pine for too long

Thibs with the backing of Leon seem to have constructed the roster along the following lines: There is roster redundancy and competition at each spot. Last year the salaries were pretty balanced, so no one felt they had a guaranteed role based on paycheck, other than maybe Julius. This year, less so, but I think no one is getting paid as "the man" outside Julius.

So, there is competition. And the Knicks hedged more than a player deep. I mean, they had Burks signed to either start or be a 6th man, but also had Rivers competing for him for that spot. And IQ emerged, and Rivers minutes started to decrease, and then Rose ended them entirely.

Same with Grimes and even McBride. McBride could theoretically grab IQ's minutes, but probably not. But I could see Grimes taking Burks minutes. Even Sims technically had a chance to get minutes from Noel or Mitch, but it's obvious he's too raw. Mitch deserves credit we don't always give for having pretty good court sense etc almost immediately. I mean, it wasn't perfect, but then you see what a project really looks like in Sims...

Even getting that Spurs cast off Luka was taking a flyer but also building some organization depth behind Obi but particularly Knox.

So, Grimes I see playing. He's not McBride.
McBride going to suffer from Thibs aversion to young PG's.

Again, I'd rather see McBride play, but the Knicks didn't extend the organizational depth of PG with Knight for no reason. Knight is basically the Rivers' signing, but he's in the G-League.

To me Brandon as a old Wildcat, is being done right by the team. He's going to get some much needed cash, Im sure, but: IQ, Grimes, Rose, Evan, Kemba and McBride all have weapons that Brandon no longer possess. Maybe he'll go straight to the G or be our next Theo IMO.
