When discussing the RJ trade, Lowe was talking about how bad RJ was those first two games vs CLE. His description was Julius Randle level bad playoff performances. And Lowe is the damn king of Randle island.

That’s the narrative. He had some pretty big games last playoffs (I think the game he played vs CLE game 5 was peak awesome Randle) but he also had some dumpster fires & his defense at times during that MIA series was the worst effort I’ve ever seen from a Knick in the playoffs (Beer has a whole string of video highlighting the lack of effort).

RJ exorcised his playoff demons. Randle has an even better opportunity to do it this year w/ OG being a better fit for him. Everyone will be watching or the pitchforks will be out. The whole world already knows he’s a legitimate all NBA talent during the regular season.

We saw it with Melo (he’d have to Lebron to lead JR Smith and team to anything), we saw it with Starbury (the NYC kid that was going to make everything right), we saw it with Ewing (what can’t he be like Mike)

Rabid desperate Knick fans throwing these types of “not good enough” players on a pedestal that you could almost predict (like clockwork) will eventually be set on fire when said player can’t pull gold out their butts. If instead you take Randle for what he is and see him fulfilling what reasonable minds should expect him to fulfill he has been more on than off in doing that.

I don't know why you always retort to "because he is what he is", "because he isn't LBJ", now "because he isn't Giannis".

Buddy... most of it is about effort. And stop clumping Randle, Melo and Starbury with Ewing. Sure, there are unreasonable fans who blame Ewing for a lot. But for the most part, fans saw him leave everything on the court for 15 years and appreciate what he gave us.

I remember vividly the Hawks coach being asked how they plan to play the Knicks and without hesitation said “throw everything at Julius Randle

Well yeah, it was a good plan. Because Randle was still jacking up shots and losing the ball.

Jacking up 20 shots and 4 TOs a game doesn't look like a guy who knows what he's doing in the POs. Literally fed into the opponent's game plan.

If you want to say, take him for what he is. It's very fair for fans to put blame on the guy shooting inefficiently and losing the ball.

We've seen this time and time again with players who only offer scoring.

He’d have gotten less heat for not playing than what he did.

Case in point. He was a net negative.

The problem was ISO ball doesn’t work with RJ and he’s often left forcing bad shots with the clock winding down or standing in corner watching Julius. The only reason OG is working out because he doesn’t get in Randle or Jalen way. IQ and RJ are creators and the Knicks didn’t allow them too. They look like Lowery and Derozen 2.0 and are only going to get better. OG has mad us better but this run might unfortunately be the peak. Because this team will be judge on playoff success or lack of and that’s where it falls on Julius. Julius was not a good fit with IQ or RJ and now we have to win with him.

One thing Julius never did was throw the ball ahead to get easy baskets. He consistently trots up court at his pace and that would limit Rj and Iq getting easy shots. Then he never went to the corner or paint but rather the top of the key where now a wing had to go to the corner and stand there. Julius and Thibs have always been the issue holding the younger players back. Thinking other wise you simply are a homer and can’t be unbiased. We simply have to win with Julius now or run the risk of once again selling our youth too soon instead of building the old fashion way.

Yeah, the ball is really sticking since RJ and IQ got traded and the Knicks have been trash, losing every game.

If RJ and IQ are so great, we'd better be judging the Raptors and their "organic" style of play on playoff success as well.

Ah, this board. No one is ever happy with what the Knicks do. Case in point.

It’s not about being happy. It’s simply an analysis of what certain fans see or accept about this team. Julius is having a great season individually. But he’s had great seasons before only to have his game not translate into the playoffs. Some would say he has yet to even play a great playoff game. So ok it’s fine you’re banking on him to win. But you can’t discount how well RJ and IQ are playing when we never rolled out the red carpet for them in 4 years. We told IQ sit behind Elfred and Burks. We told RJ to stand in the corner and limited his transition opportunities. Now it has to work with Julius. That’s just the truth.

I'm loving the fact that Randle has adjusted his game to play closer to the basket. I think with this style he can do well in the playoffs.

However, in line with what you said, Julius Randle accounted for almost 1/4 of the entire team's defensive rebounds on a nightly basis.... Yet he never made it a point to quickly advance the ball.

RJ was leading the Knicks in fast break transition points. That was a strength of his that was ignored. He is extremely hard to stop in transition. Julius getting the ball ahead to RJ after grabbing the board would have definitely made the Knicks offense come easier, and help RJ's efficiency as well.

All in all I think Randle will do much better in this playoffs because he's not just settling for long twos and chucking threes

But julius didn’t advance the ball because he knew he wouldn’t get the assist. That’s why he’s smiling so much more now. He’s either going to score or get the assist with further fueled his stats. Rj and IQ didn’t need him and that’s why when they had the ball he would often crowd them at the 3 point line. He simply never allowed them to operate. And Jalen was always shoot first so it was a perfect storm for those 2.

Trade deadline is in February 8th.

I'm sensing some "This time it's different" vibes around Randle. Knicks should definitely use this opportunity to trade him. They screwed up in 2021 and 2023 by not trading him. The basketball gods are sending us another gift.

It really does look like the sentiment around the league is changing. Maybe they think RJ and/or chemistry was the problem for Randle?

Anyways, not sure why it always had to be RJ or Randle for Knick fans. Anyone else in favor of trading them both?

1 down. 1 to go....

Are we going to blame OG in the playoffs for not being a shot creator when Randle goes 4 for 20 w/ 6 TOs ?
