Absolutely 100%.

There is nobody in the league who can do what he does at the level he does it and we were the best team in the league, by a very wide margin, when he played with our full roster.

There is no world where the Knicks should let OG walk

Hoping he opts in and extends so he’s here for 5 seasons and hoping Thibs caps him at 32 mins a game.

A crazy 25-6 or whatever record when he plays? Of course you lock him up.

Have to sign him bc we gave major assets to get him. And there is no alternative.

The risk is he is injury prone and takes a long time to heal. Thibs really will need to load manage him and we will need good backup players for him.

Yes. Is this a serious question? Dude was **** incredible for us and our guys really trust him. You could see it during that 14-2 run Brunson would take full advantage of him in the corner every game off of drives.

You pay him and you LIMIT him to 28 MPG. You have Hart. Get a legitimate back up PF so he doesn't have to log heavy minutes.

Aller will sign OG to another team friendly contract.

In Brock I trust. He's the REAL MVP in the front office.

No way he signs that.

It's going to have to be the 40 + 40.

OG is worth the money he'll demand SOMETIMES - i.e. when not injured or passing up shots and play his stellar defense.

But, I don't think his new big contract is entirely because of his play. It's because NBA salaries have gotten to where they are, and you're going to pay premium dollar for a young 3/D wing. It's the market, as much, if not more as it is OG.

I would love that. THAT's the solution.
But his agent will weasel out that.

You must at all cost keep the following as your core. Rotation needs to be 9 deep with lingerling 10th man. OG needs to be cap at 28-32 MPG (7 for 3 quarters and 9-10 in the 4th)

Brunson
Donte
Hart
OG (free agent)
Ihart (free agent)
McBride

The expandables for trades
Randle
Mitch
Bojan
Sims

Possible returns to fill the bench
Burks
Precious

Everyone else can be let go.

Randle/Mitch + some picks should net us a quality starting 4 that fits our team.

The Knicks are a contender when OG plays and a pretender when he doesn't.

The Knicks have to take the risk and manage his minutes smarter.

His two-way impact on this team is that of a star.

You can’t make that trade we did just a rental. They need to bring him back but I am interested to see what his asking price is

Not really but you have to give it to him

But also once you're over the cap, going even further beyond doesn't really matter.

He's gonna opt-in and extend like Hart did. It will be a hefty deal but less than many are expecting. 5 years in total (with the opt-in) which means he's with us through his prime.

It's possible that we extend Brunson and Randle as well so their timelines more or less line-up. Hart and DDV are already locked up on team-friendly deals and, perhaps, iHart well re-up as well so this core is together for ~5 years with Thibs at the helm.

The New Age Knicks. Same as it ever was.

yes

and almost the perfect fit next to our best player in Brunson in someone that doesn't need a ton of touches to to be effective on offense and he is legit one of the only players in the NBA that can guard effectively 1-5.

His loss is the reason why we aren't playing in the conference finals.

I think we can at most offer og a -4.5% decrease in salary every year

so something like

year 1:
40-38m

-4.5% decrease yoy

means

4yr/149 to 145m contract.

with year 4 at 34 to 33m.

there is basically 0 way he will get a contract smaller than jrue holidays. none.

jrue got 4/135

Yes. We are a contender with him and a playoff doormat without him. We just need to figure out how to keep him healthy.
