Also it’s practice to make sure he is sharp to do the real thing. He really doesn’t do any filing except for a few months during the year.

I know the reason why NBA front offices do this. I'll assume at least half the board knows too, but I'll explain for anyone who is truly puzzled.

By the way, I have ZERO idea if the new CBA makes this a somewhat more compelling thing to do or less, or it doesn't matter. I think it's the 3rd reason.

Teams acquire the rights to euro players, generally centers over the age of 35 who shave their backs daily, so they have extra NO COST pieces, actual players, to balance out unbalanced trades.


It seems to rarely come up, but there are instances where it does and you see Georgi Popalapadakados included in a trade.
It doesn't seem to come up that often, so not sure why Knicks have FOUR guys like this now. But whatever.
