The horrific (not surprising)

What I actually found interesting is that the Knicks are 12th best FG% defending within the restricted area but are dead last FG% in the paint

This isn't that shocking if it's not rate adjusted, seeing as the Knicks play at one of the slowest paces in the league. Raw total ranking will make this team look better than it is.

Cavs are worse than the Knicks in defending the 3 and 2nd to last in the league. Kenny Atkinson is a terrible outdated coach confirmed.

The defense being as bad as it is is entirely Mikal's fault.

Knicks knew that KAT and Brunson would get exploited at times, so counted on adding Mikal to OG and Hart to get the defense to around 12th in the league

Instead Mikal has completely stunk it up.

Look no further.

Nothing bothers me more than the free throw issue. His shot may be broken but Mikal is afraid of contact like Howie was afraid of the sun in Benchwarmers

I have no idea if Atkinson is a truly elite coach, but I do know it's undeniable he's doing a better job running Cleveland this year than Thibs is doing here in NYC to this point.

Minimizing poor 3P defense with efficient, high-octane, relentless, fresh legs offense seems like a sound philosophy to me. The Cavs play at the 7th fastest offensive pace and have 10 (TEN!) players averaging at least 19 minutes a game, which has produced the #1 scoring offense AND the #1 efficiency offense in the league.

yea i'm still hopeful and expect his offense to come around... his defense might just be what it is now though.

everyone made excuses for him falling off defensively in brooklyn due to him carrying more of the offense and/or being on a bad team... last year Cam Thomas carried the offense more if anything and his defense still sucked. now the nets are a decent team without him. not a great sign.

How to fix our putrid defense:

1. Start Precious over Hart
2. Play Bridges and Hart under 32 mins so they can go harder on defense
3. Replace Sims with Mitch when he returns
4. Incorporate more switches on picks... way more
5. Stagger KAT and Brunson's minutes more so they play together less.
6. Play at a faster pace

We have the talent to get into the top 12 of defense... no reason we should be this pathetic. This is mainly on Thibs.

You forgot to mention it was garbage time the whole second half and for the first time in Thibs life he doesn't play a starter in the 4th quarter and Sims goes for career highs but posts a -26.

2. Bench Bridges for MCullar and Hart for Precious. Because I dont see Bridges suddenly becoming un-softt or Hart suddenly growing 4+ inches.

Agree 100% with everything else.
