I like the way that Jamal Crawford phrased it. Brunson is always collecting data and using it for good / to figure out how to improve.
Stats and the eye test are both useful to make a good judgement.
His passing this year is leaps and bounds better. I’m not talking about assists, but rather the quality of looks he’s getting others.
He is recognising what is needed of him in a particular game beautifully. He’s trusting his team more.
He was in a bit of a funk during the time that he was figuring this out. Yet his stats right now look pretty good.
Defensively he has continued to draw a lot of charges/offensive fouls.
Overall, I think he is a more valuable player this season.
How's Brunson playing, compared to last year?

Re: How's Brunson playing, compared to last year?
He is doing what a true leader does. We have 3 new guys in our starting line-up compared to the start of last season. He is making sure everybody is involved, gets going and feels as part of the team. I have zero doubt that if he wanted to he could aim at getting 30 a night and put together 40 point games in bunches.
I'm a stats guy myself but Brunson is the one guy I haven't bothered to look up his stats this season at all. To me Brunson is beyond proven and the type of talent that can turn it up at any point if asked to. Whatever nuance people believe they can read into his play at this stage is insignificant. If the playoffs started tomorrow he could go right back into 40points per game mode (if needed to).
So to answer the question. Brunson is elite, will be elite for the next years and don't read too much into regular season games, either way.
