I predict Thibs gets fired or promoted to front office

I also predict KAT ends up in PHX, KD goes to Minny, we get Naz, DDV and picks in the 3-way trade…

I predict Thibs will be back. We will make minor bench moves and run it back. Nothing shocking will happen. Half the fans will like things half the fans will hate things. Media will bloviate as usual. We will be mentioned with every FA/trade rumor from here until October.

52+ wins and a trip to the finals or bust.

Looking like this but I doubt we get 52 win and really doubt we make it to the 2nd round with no significant changes. :starwars :curse:  :argue:

You can bet Mitch will be injured at some point and even if he's not our offense is sluggish, iso and dull. :nonono:

And our defense like a spaghetti colander with torn plastic for a giant hole in the middle. :banghead:

48 wins, a ho-hum season, a first round exit to the improved Pistons. Then more of the same that's going on right now.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat for 2026-2027. At least we are a Playoff team finally. :D

If the Giannis trade is there for a reasonable price, I would make the deal of course. Otherwise, I personally think we should fire Thibs. He’s older now, and maybe some fresh blood with a new coach/ new voice is needed in with modern offensive and defensive schemes. We are very close to a ring, and have this 2-3 year window. Have at it!

a thread with such broad implications needs a much better launch point than being a vehicle for your one or two areas of personal focus. particularly if it's going to have a poll.

the offseason is a bigger conversation deserving of more respect than trade KAT for Giannis? and fire thibs under my preferred circumstances or nah? especially when there is already a vibrant thread on the latter and a trades and transactions thread for the former.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

If the question is what would you like most.....it has to be Giannis. Giannis is the perfect Brunson complement out there. You do whatever you csn behind the scenes to make it happen. Even to the point of bringing in a guy who Giannis would prefer to be the HC.

Yes, I would give up both KAT and Bridges if I had to to get him too.

Then get Divo back if Minny wants to sign Randle.

Mitch/ Giannis/ Huk
Giannis/OG
OG/Hart/McCullers
Divo/Hart/Wright
Brunson/Wright

If Minny resigns Randle, they might still be under the cap if they let NAW walk no? Reid is also a free agent so he might resign for a team friendly contract.

But yes I agree with you, the giannis JB pick and roll would be the best 1,2 punch in the league by a mile

I'm a bit of 2 and 3, though I voted 3.

Fire Thibs, but for the team, make changes on the marings.

All they have is the tax player MLE, a few marginal players they can resign and maybe a trade or two. . . . and they can explore hiring a new coach. Options are a little limited, but I'm still looking forward to what Leon does.

True, but there are other avenues I would like to see explored as well
Such as resign shamet on a vet Min or TPE, and add another shooter off the bench.
Yes, I’ve voiced my displeasure with Thibs, but that’s not the sole purpose of this thread. There are a lot of other avenues aside from that we need to take in order to fix the glaring weaknesses on our team. Thibs is one thing but the team itself as currently constructed needs to shore up the bench and fix the edges, which is why I put the other option of “other” hoping that posters could give insight with specifically this roster that we can reshape.

I personally don’t think we can win with KAT and Thibs. Which is why one of them has to go for the other to succeed.

I mean winning a championship isnt easy

You need to basically have the best Coach/ Talent combo in the NBA usually

Knicks are a dang good team but I dont think Thibs takes this current makeup of a squad to a championship

Lets say they won game 1 (and if they put their defensive closer Mitch in up 17 with 5 miniutes left they likely would have)

They possibly pull this series out in 7.

I highly doubt they would have the beat Thunder either.Truthfully I think Thunder beat Pacers in 5 or 6. Thunders defense is excellent and can match up a ton better than Knicks did on their guys

I wouldn't hate keeping Thibs (as a last resort) but it would need to be guys that can execute his system.

Did folks out there read the articles on just how bad Kat was in his system (if they eye t3st wasnt obvious enough)? He missed so many reads, was late on switches, would call for others to cover his assignment etc. I thought he could at least be adequate. I just dont think KAT is a good fit in this system like at all.

Now I DO believe Thibs did a horrible job masking his deficiencies too so there's that, but Brunson at 1 and KAT at 5 is just too weak defensively even with plus defenders eveywhere else unless you really stagger their minutes and play them 33 minutes insted of 38 or 39 minutes.

He was a stud offensively for sure. If you bring a 3 bomber in like Divo back AND get a more modern NBA coach , I wouldn't hate it. But we would be more a Pacer like squad than a studly defensive squad.

Naz contract is up unless he opts in (which is very doubtful)

I think it really could for a few reasons…

1: He’s rumored to want a big market
2: Also rumored to want to remain in the East
3: Said his favorite place to play is NY
4: Hates the Pacers (and we just lost to them)
5: Won’t feel like he’s pulling a KD/GSW since we lost in the ECF
6: All he has to do is say trade me to MSG like all the other players with specific preferences have.. Kareem, Kobe, AD, Melo, Cp3, Dwight, etc.

1) Thibs comes back and he deserves to come back. He’s done a good job here and has been successful. That doesn’t mean he’s the right coach to get this team over the hump, but he deserves to come back after this years playoff run. His seat, however, will be very hot and there is no guarantee he makes it through next season

2) KAT is back unless one of 3 things happen
(A) it’s part of a larger Giannis deal
(B) a Durant swap
(C) a trade that comes out of left field for a top-10 player
Towns can be frustrating at times, but he’s very good. He’s been the #2 option on conference finals teams 2 years in a row and you try it out for another season and with another coach before moving him to break up the contracts

3) if one of the wings are moved (which I think needs to happen) it will be for a premium.

4) NY has the tax MLE and two min slots to round out the roster.

1. Agree

2. Agree but KAT won't be going to MIL if it's a Giannis deal. Milwaukee will most likely look to rebuild. If it's a KAT/Durant swap, i might be okay with this. c. agree

3. disagree. Sigh the more I think about it.. we need them and 1 more.

4. Bobby Marks said if you trigger the tax MLE we are automatically in the 2nd apron. This whole year was to avoid the 2nd apron. I think a few things has to happen first if you want to use it.

Using the tax MLE triggers a 2nd apron hard cap, it doesn’t make you a 2nd apron team

We’re bringing back DDV, probably for Deuce + filler. Moving Hart to the bench.

Brunson
DDV
Mikal
OG
KAT

Wright
Shamet
Hart
Mitch

Also they find a better 3rd string C who will be 2nd string C or even starting in big lineups (if Mitch gets hurt). Idk who that is

I don’t know how we can bring back the Brunson and Kat duo next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s untenable defensively!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leon’s not trading Brunson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So most likely Kats gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm thinking hukporti is that guy.

could also see kolek where you've got wright in that scenario. but i'd be happy to see wright back even as a situational POA/defensive lineup support. his vet min might be a consideration given his years of service. we are gonna be mega penny pinching for the next few.
