Honest Q — Do nba teams ever reach/win the Finals with a new coach? Seems to me it’s a lot less frequent (if ever).

Imagine that uncreative, unimaginative offense for another 80-100 games. Pretty depressing thought. On top of it we will watch all our starters in the game with 3 minutes to go and up 25 games multiple times prayig they don't get injured.

Once Thibs is confirmed as HC going into next season I will definitely cancel my league pass account....

Of the last 10 finals, 40% of them had at least one rookie coach. 75% of them won.

The one good thing that’s coming out of all this, is there’s tension in the Knicks building about seriously competing for a title. It’s a moral victory, but after the up and down season they had, it does feel good to know they don’t want to settle for just making it to the ECF.

Ngl. I made a similar thread in November and it got locked two pages in. Yours keeps rolling. Salute lol

you talking about this?

if so, it's not locked. you did plenty to try to keep it alive though.

Thanks for finding it JVG, good to see my thoughts in November and December are still the same now lol. At least I’m consistent
Maybe I’ll resurrect it!

Damn pretty damning on Thibs---Teague says basically Thibs coaching tactics are ancient. Not surprisingly. All agree that if Carlisle and Thibs were switched on these teams the Knicks would have gone to the finals. Saying that the Knicks were the more talented team. Pretty much everything Thibs critics have been saying over and over again.

"He runs the offense like he still has Derrick Rose."

This is exactly what I’m saying. This video is EXACTLY what I’m talking about, the league has changed, and when I watch it’s like the Knicks are stuck in mud on both ends of the court.
You got former players like Teague, KG, Pierce, who have played for Thibs that say he calls every play, he doesn’t allow other people to get a voice in, and runs offensive sets from the early 2000s. Let’s be honest, if we didn’t have Mikal and if we didn’t have KAT we would have been 3 wins less again this year and second round outs AGAIN. The league has changed, and the talent of this team has taken them beyond his handcuffing them. Yet people on here will rock out with the idea that he got us further that any other coach in the past.
It’s maddening man.

We have former players like Teague openly acknowledging if the Knicks and pacers switch coaches it would be an easy win for NY

He’s talking about thibs still running old plays, old offensive principals, not letting assistant coaches have enough input. Teague is talking about thibs having offensive coordinators but still insisting on calling every single outdated play.

This FO is a joke if he’s our coach next season. Whole world knows what needs to be done.

Yeah that interview was pretty tough on Thibs. Like as a FO if you listen to how a former player that loves him talks about him and include guys like Garnett and Pierce who won a title with him too....then wow very difficult to see how they keep him around. But I guess it is what it is at this point.

See ya guys neyt season.

Off the top of my head, Steve Kerr(rookie) took over after Mark Jackson and immediately won a championship in his first year.

Raptors Nick nurse(rookie) took over after Casey and immediately won a championship in his first year.

Pat the rat(well-experienced coach) booted Van gundy and immediately led the Heat to a championship that same season.

Brody I wouldn’t believe espn too much on this
They’ve leaked absolutely nothing to ESPN or fox sports since Leon rose took over
From the OG trade to Mikal and KAT
ESPN only heard about the trades until AFTER they were completed

shams is probably the most plugged in insider in the NBA at this point. anytime he opens his mouth to say anything about what he has heard, it's extremely credible.

guys like sham and formerly woj are generally "late" to announce leaks because they hear a million different things that aren't quite officially done yet and the last thing they want to do is announce that something happened on the off chance that it falls through at the last minute because it is in those moments they start to lose credibility.

Yep and that's a good thing.

It's not about being first, it's about being factually correct with your reporting.

Does it though? Because they don't appear to be giving the HC change much consideration. I mean, I agree, you have to either change the players or the HC. And the FO has decided - Thibs is good.

Personally, I'm tired of his stupid excuse for playing guys big minutes- I absolutely saw our collapse against the Pacers as 100% a result of guys (Hart, JB, Bridges) being left with nothing in the tank.

And what the **** has Mark Bryant done with KAT, because all season, its the same stupid offensive fouls on his swim move - like work on eliminating one thing - you're the Big Man coach!

I'm kinda at the end of my rope as a fan. I'm 56. The Ewing/Riley/Van Gundy Knicks were a constant grind, and then not able to get past the Bulls/Rockets.

And now - however great it is that we've gotten into the play offs with Thibs - it's the same thing - this team doesn't have an extra gear to go to when needed.

I loved last year's team, and enjoyed this year's team. But looking ahead to another Thibs season - not excited.

What are the chances we get lucky and stay healthy? I see the minutes costing guys (Bridges, OG, JB, Hart) serious games. And then it will 1 and done and that is effectively the window on this squad.

I don't think the FO is serious, not with a blanket Thibs is our guy.

This is coming from someone who loves Tom and it's the truth. We need to play a more modern, team oriented style of basketball and Tom needs to utilize the roster to its fullest and not just grind 6 guys into the dirt.

I agree with Teague. Tom needs to accept help. What's the point of having assistant coaches if they aren't allowed to provide input and feedback?

This video frustrated the sh*t outta me because we've been saying all of this for months. I feel like ppl were trying to gaslight us acting like there wasn't an issue when there clearly is.

Also, that tweet from Bondy was alarming. What if we cannot get bench talent because guys are wary of how Thibs uses his bench? This is a legit concern.

Again, I point out Game 6 close out versus Boston when the game was well in hand and JB had to go up to Tom to tell him to take the starters out. That was one of the most bizarre things I've seen, it was like Tom was locked into a trance or something.

That's not normal man. I dunno what else to say at this point.

Makes me wonder if Johnnie Bryant got fed up working alongside Thibs as an associate head coach. Bryant left NY to go to Cleveland to work with Kenny Atkinson and Donovan MItchell.

We also replaced Johnnie Bryant with Maurice Cheeks who is older than Thibs.
