My theory on the Knicks interest in KD is to get Donte back. Mitch and Randle to Phoenix, KD to Minnesota and Donte back to NY

NY Trades: Hart, Deuce, Tucker, WAS protected 1st
WAS Trades: Smart, Kispert, 2025 #18 1st Rounder (WAS owns via MEM)

Then we sign Brogdon for 1-year Vet MLE and you have Brogdon and Smart off your bench as vet depth while Kispert can be our new 6th man. The 18th pick can be traded for a future first and some additional seconds or we can take a player we can develop for the long term. You extend Mikal and Mitch and you're looking at Mitch/KAT/OG/Mikal/Brunson starting with Huk, Kispert, Smart, and Brogdon off the bench. 55-60 win team?

not sure there's a good wolves suns trade out there. if the wolves trade gobert their defense is gonna fall of a cliff. and if the suns get a randle based trade, what does that do for them ? plus they would have to agree to a randle extension and he aint gonna take a discount to help them facilitate this. and are they a playoff team after ?

Rumor is the package may be led by Gobert for KD. If that is case Mitch may go to Minny for Donte...then Knicks turn around and pluck JJJ (if he is hinting he may bolt Memphis) for a Bridges centered package.

Keep in mind Randle has a player option. Does he opt in or out? After the playoffs he may opt out as he was mostly excellent.

Naz has a low player option of 15M and he may opt out.

Rudy to Phx makes sense as they want a more defensive identity.

It also leave Minny without a dominant C but also a team very concerned about too much payroll. A Mitch for Donte swap here makes a ton of sense. Very close salaries.

Then Knicks turn around and get an elite defensive big in JJJ or Giannis and then play Huk a little more next year as well....

Really not al all when you consider the overwhelming pattern of bringing in CAA and/or bringing in JBs Nova buddies. DIVO is both those things.....Further his 5 foot beyond the arc infinite range on the 3 was a huge positive dynamic for this team. Lastly at 12M that fits right into the budget. So yeah not bizarre in the least....

we need what mitch does way more than what donte does. they should in fact be looking for a 2nd defensive center.

Thats the point of why this trade wouldn't be done in a vaccuum but with a subsequent defensive big coming in in mind. Potentially JJJ or Giannis for instance with Huk also playing more his 2nd season.

I don't think you trade Mitch for DDV.

Instead, DDV can whine about not wanting to be in PHX if he's included in the Gobert-KD potential trade and then we swoop in as the 3rd or 4th team and we use Precious (re-signed) + Tucker + Dadiet + WAS 1st to PHX and snag DDV back "on the cheap".

Deuce, DDV, Hart, and Huk can be a devastating bench unit and we get the Nova connection fully back.

those trades are not realistic. you're not getting jjj for mikal or giannis for anyone.

Maybe....but even if it is Mitch he is in last year of his deal and very injury prone. The playiff performance gives us an ability to 'sell high' on him a little bit.

Also if we DO trade Mitch ...it is quite likely with another defensive big coming on board in mind

Thatssimply not true.....Mikal had mutliple offers from other teams when we got him....we won out but Houston offered 4 FRPs for him. Bridges + a little more can definitely get you a star like JJJ who has more leverage SINCE he is on the last year of his deal.

by the way, jjj is not a center. he's a great roaming help defender and shot blocker but having to protect the paint full time, box out and rebound is not something he's actually good at. and next to kat you'd want him to do that.

No one said full time. He can alternate between 4 and 5.

Correct but Mikal wasnt terrible here when teams invariably looks at context. He was a 4th option and misutilizated by Thibs. HOWEVER when he was featured more he showed he absolutely is still a star level player. And JJJ value in terms of Memphis leverage is low.

Grizzlies believe Jaren Jackson Jr. is part of their young core going forward, they are looking to add to it, not trade him.

Would be nice to have Donte back but Mitch is more valuable

Return to New York Knicks
