How nice of the NBA to put the game on a service people have to pay $160 a year to use. Go piracy.

It's a highlight league now apparently

Something like 70 million households still have cable and 168 million Americans have Amazon prime. Not sure if that number includes all the password sharing that happens too. If anything the move to Amazon has made it easier to watch the games legally. There’s a legitimate gripe against the peacock games though. If my wife didn’t watch love island I would have cancelled it months ago.

I remember years ago when people wanted cable it was for the reception, all the channels, no commercials and of course lightweight porn.

Then they wanted internet provided viewing for more choices and no commercials.

Now you get to have cable with commercials, internet provided TV and movies with commercials, and you get to pay money for it. You know, that thing you were supposed to do so you wouldn't have to watch commercials that were originally the vehicle for how the networks made money

Corporations: "We decided we needed to make some money on top of money while many Americans are struggling to get by"

It doesn't specifically hurt me. I could pay every fee and not give a single sh*t. I made my money.
I occasionally like to consider how it might hurt other people who aren't doing as well.
There's also the principal of super rich f*cks taking more of my money, even if I could technically spare it.

There's no defense being played anywhere thus far in the league. Teams easily racking up 130 points a game. We got enough offensive power to be one of those teams.

I’ve been fascinated by the nba ratings discussion, mostly cuz i work in the dying tv and movie industry. This NBA media deal is really a Hail Mary by both Disney and comcast to try to save their media businesses. The irony of it all is that cable was such a lucrative business that the pivot to streaming has been disastrous. Adding commercials back in the day allowed these companies to produce more content. Now it’s being used to stop the bleeding of these boondoggle streaming apps.

The only one making money is Netflix. Apple and Amazon run theirs at a loss propped up by their much more lucrative other parts of their businesses. Now we get less shows, more commercials, and multiple platforms to find stuff.

Silver is clearly betting that there’s a massive hidden nba audience that doesn’t want to pay the 100+ dollars a month for cable and was using stream east or whatever else exists now. Since everyone pretty much has prime cuz they hate paying for shipping and you can get broadcast tv for free with an antenna. It’s def the same bet that WWE made when they moved Raw to Netflix. Turns out after the first episode there wasn’t some massive hidden wrestling audience and everyone watching raw on USA was also watching it on Netflix.

Edit: ratings for opening night were 5.6 million making it the most watched opening night in 2010.

I'll never forget walking out of the Garden after that game six series clincher and that feeling and scenery! It's as close to a championship I've ever seen and felt!

East is too weak to and their payroll is too high to tank effectively. Brown or White would have to go down first. And I probably wouldn't chop them up to tanking until midseason.

Brown and White are not doing anything with that roster except get a lottery pick. Our schedule is easy until the Timberwolves game. Not sure if the Bucks are any good yet.

This is the kind of thinking that got us cocky with the Pacers.

Brown is still an All-NBA player. White is the best role player in the league. Mazzulla is one of the best coaches in the league. They're not going to just roll over.
