All the leagues have drafted, and the season is set to kick off tonight. Please don't forget to set your lineups for tonight's game, and the rest of the week (mostly for H2H)! And please don't forget or neglect to keep up with your teams all season. Attrition is probably the biggest reason for poor performance every year! Don't lose your spot to the next qualified manager!

As for those who missed out, I'll keep your names handy, so you'll have first crack at the spots that open for next season. Feel free to join the other leagues available here and in the fantasy board to either stay sharp, or get your feet wet. Here's to another great season on the board's fantasy leagues!

It's always interesting to see which players to bench/play on opening night.

In one league, I'm benching Luke Ridnour and Austin Daye in favor of Jarrett Jack and Linas Kleiza.

In another league, I'm benching Ben Gordon and Austin Daye is favor of Jarrett Jack and Anderson Varejao.

Here's to hoping Detroit doesn't have a great night, and that the Raptors can go toe-to-toe with the Knicks for a little bit.

quick question its my first time doing fantasy and the lineup changes I made for today didn't take effect in my match-up screen. When i look at today's lineup the changes are there but once i go to the match up screen there not there and im not picking up any stats for the players I moved into the starting lineup.

pak14life, is that on Yahoo? Most stats are not added up correctly until the next day. Make sure you have the players in a position or "utility" so the stats can be accounted for.

I'm new to fantasy hoops, just got in a league with some friends, and am itching to wheel some deals.

What do you guys think of my two proposed trades?

#1
I send Devin Harris and Antawn Jamison

I get David Lee and Ray Felton

#2
I send Brook Lopez, Jeff Green, and Andres Biedrins

I get Z-Bo, DeMarcus Cousins, and Wesley Johnson

#1 - if the other team accepts that, they're a moron. I picked Jamison in the roto league and instantly regretted it as soon as I learned he was at odds with Byron Scott and coming off the bench. David Lee is a top 15 fantasy option still. Even if Jamison stat pads on a bad Cavs team, the trade would still be lopsided in Lee/Felton's favor.

#2 - I'd keep your players. Jeff Green is very underrated and gets you multi-cats. Lopez > Z-Bo, and will be the #1 option for Nets. Cousins has more potential than Biedrins, but Sac has a crowded frontcourt, especially when Dalembert comes back, while Biedrins should see 30 mpg, barring foul trouble.

Can't think of a better place to ask this question than the Knicks board, hope that's okay.

Would I be absolutely crazy to drop Gallo and pick up Landry Fields? I have no doubt Gallo's offense will get better as he settles down and his wrist feels better, but I think Field's overall play might make him a better use of my SF spot.

What do you all think?

If you need help in Rebounds maybe...but it depends on how Deep your League is. If it's more than 12 Teams then you're better off keeping Gallo and trying to swing a Trade. If it's around 10 Teams, than drop him for a something better.

BUT, keep in mind it's only been 1 Week, and Gallo has been hurt.

Strategies For Fantasy Basketball

Post#212 » by OooSplendiforous » Wed Nov 3, 2010 9:15 pm

I'd like to hear a couple of different strategies out there, because mine....while I think it is excellent, it's very difficult to create this type of team considering theres only a few players who fit the mold.

I use the D'Antoni/ Nellie Ball philosophy with fantasy ball.

I view most big men as pretty useless considering they generally provide help in the least amount of cateogires. They usually can rebound and maintain a high FG% but they can't shoot free throws, they don't shoot 3's, theyre usually not big scorers, don't dish assists, nor do they get steals.

So what I try to do is build a team with 6 guards (generally point guards) who are 3 point shooters. That way you rack up 3 pointers made, Assists, FT% (because usually good 3 pt shooters are good foul shooters), and Points. Guards usually are the top steals-men in the league as well, so its likely the team would dominate in that category also.

You figure theres 9 categories, and if your team has 6 guards who all provide immensely in the 5 categories listed above, youre winning those every week. So it's already a 5-4 win by default most of the time. If your guys happen to keep the turnovers down that week, you can make it a 6-3 win.

Alot of people tend to try the opposite and just draft the 14 most well rounded players, but to me that never made a lot of sense because it seems like you'll never dominate a category...and every week would probably just be a crapshoot. I feel like you have to give your team an identity.

Anyway, what are some of your strategies that have worked?

One of my friends this year went with the draft centers who get blocks and pgs. then you can fill in with guys who get the spam cats (points and rebounds)

My league format is likely different from yours, the standard believe is pg, sg, g, sf, pf C C util util, mine is pg, sg, sf pf c util.

It is really tough to go INTO a draft with a plan because it matters what pick you have. Your first pick determines your entire draft. IMO you pick guys who contribute THE MOST and toss out points and rebounds. You can get high points and rebounds for free even off of the Fa's. Having said that guys like Zach Randolph are still valuable, but I do not buy high on guys like that. Got him last year 8th or 9th round.
I agree that you want to pick a few cats, specialize and then fill in the roster with other guys who can keep you competitive. Win 4, compete for the other 4. Thats really the BEST you should be able to do (if everyone at your draft makes wise picks).

Over on the minor league board, I am going to be running a fantasy game tailored to fans of all brands of basketball. I'll repost what I stated in the topic:
viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1065366
How it works is that you are able to select some of your favorite college players who never made the pros or others not currently in the NBA, in order to compete in this fantasy league. They can be inactive for a decent span of time, however this fact may count against your team. As a general rule, you may not select players who are locked into a contract overseas as well, unless you can argue that they would come back to the states given this opportunity. Any minor league player is up for grabs, unless he is an NBA affiliated player.

How the competitive aspect of this will work is that we will select 16 players each, going round by round, posting positive and negative aspects of each of their games. From there, we will compete in head-to-head matchups where you have to argue for why your team is better, and how your team would exploit the matchup. Then we will vote on each game, until each of us has played one another.

A further consideration that I am having is whether or not to create a rule, whereby each team would only be allowed to select up to 5 players from a particular minor league. This would keep the game interesting, and we might see different matchups from simply D League teams that are currently in existence.

If anyone has any interest at all, post in this thread and you can create your own team name, logo, location, management appeal or draw for your specific selected area, marketing plans, etc.

This is an excellent opportunity to acclimate yourself with minor league basketball in general especially if you do not know much currently. I can provide you with a source list of different players from different teams, and where some former college players are playing. We can then have our minor league draft in say approximately a month or so given the level of interest.

I am posting here because I have seen threads about minor league basketball on here in the past. Former NBA players etc. are all eligible in this contest. I feel like you all might get a kick out of creating your very own teams from scratch.

Anyway, I am also considering some sort of end-term evaluation where we can each evaluate the success of the overall business play and rank them in order.

Any ideas, comments, or concerns are very much appreciated.

Are any of you interested?
