That'd only happen if Jared Dudley starts tweeting "Melo to NY!! U heard it here first!!"

Dudley is the ultimate jinx.

Magic is probably one of the most loved players in NBA history, of course all these modern day stars idolise and will want to say hi to him.

As it happens, I'm sure Magic sold his stake in the Lakers a couple of months ago.

Knicker23 wrote:No, if we want to beat Miami NOW we need to be lucky..... you add Melo, we don't need as much luck.... Amare and Melo could easily cancel out Wade and James on any day of the week... then it becomes what, whether Bosh would have a bigger impact than any of the other guys? Whether the rest of the guys that aren't Melo and Amare on our team are better than the rest of the guys on the Heat that aren't James and Wade........ Beating Miami wouldn't be some unbelievable feat that we'd savor like we would now... it would still be tough, but not something out of the realm of possibility every single night with Melo and Amare on the floor.

We wont be able to beat the Heat unless we change our basketball mindset from a small ball offense driven game to even remotely trying to play defense. Forget that from a strictly talent point of view lebron wade and bosh combo is much better than amare melo and felton, they're one of the best defenses in the league. The have so much offensive firepower yet the win games on the defensive side of the court, they're #1 in opponent fg% and top 5 in opponent ppg. Lebron and wade are good defenders but aside from them the team doesn't have any good individual defenders, they play team defense extremely well. We can add as much talent as we want but until we grasp the concept of team defense we're not going anywhere. I think our team has the pieces to become a respectable defensive squad we just dont have anyone to instill that mindset. I think it all starts from finding a coaching replacement. Dantoni will end up finishing this season as our head coach but there are a good amount of coaches whose contracts are expiring this year taht we should look at if they dont get resigned.

I think Magic may be the greatest player of all time actually.

He was the best PG IMO.

And he was the heart of a great team.

Lebron is the closest thing we have today to Magic and he ain't close to being that great.

Carmelo's pussyfooting tells me that it was never about the quality of our offer, let alone that of the Nets, who seemingly kept coming up with better and better offers, and Denver kept trying to make those offers even juicier.

DENVER'S APPROACH has been to wait him out, field and DEFLECT OFFERS, and push him and his reps to the point where he would buckle and commit to Denver for 80 million over the next four years.

Likewise, keep fielding and deflecting, feeding BS to the press, forcing up the pressure on the Knicks to do something really clownish, along the lines of a Hershel Walker Trade.

So, does Donnie offer Curry, Gallo, Chandler, Fields and Randolph + our 2014 #1. Does that get it done or does Denver stall for MORE DRAFT PICKS? Perhaps it would be interesting to see who amongst us signs off on such an offer.

Speaking of Denver pressuring Carmelo, does this represent Carmelo pressuring the Knicks? Love me or lose me?

How do I interpret this? Another big athlete leveraging the Knicks to get his way.

That is to say, which statement rings true? Hint...

A] I want to compete for championships. Money doesn't matter.

B] I want to compete for championships with the New York Knicks.

C] I want to compete for championships with the New York Knicks, but only if I can get 20 million a year to do so.

Denver has been depending on C] all along, and both sides have been applying pressure to leverage what they want.

In other words, having revealed his show card, Carmelo just exerted the exact opposite motivation on to Donnie Walsh...that is to say, only a truly goofy, Isiah Thomas type, Eddy Curry Trade Proposal (anyone here who wouldn't ask for a Mulligan on our two #1 lottery picks two #2 picks Bonanza which could have been Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Joachim Noah) would be considered, and even then, might just be another form of yanking our chain.

In the meantime, be they mere role players or potential studs, Gallo, Chandler, Fields, Randolph, Mozgov are NEW YORK KNICKS. Look how much better all the Nyets played once Prokhorov came out and said THIS CHARADE IS CONCLUDED.

It remains to be seen, but consider this: WAS IT EVER REAL? WAS ANY OF IT EVER REAL? WOULD ANY OFFER REPRESENT SOMETHING ACCEPTABLE TO THE DENVER NUGGETS? WAS THIS THEIR STRATEGY AND LEVERAGE OVER CARMELO ALL THE TIME?

Can we possibly accept that this was a mirage, we were being played, and that nearly every time someone says it ain't about the money, IT IS ABOUT THE EFF-ING MONEY?

We still have cap space. We still have options. We are still in position to make FA signings and trades in 2011 and 2012.

Can we finally just move on and accept reality, and that THIS WAS NEVER A REALITY?

Here is my latest offer:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=4ubqbtp

We get Billups, Anthony, and Telfair.
Denver gets Chandler, Felton, Azu, and Walker, 2011 pick either from Minny or us whichever is higher, 2014 pick from us.
Minny gets Curry and Randolph.

Denver saves a ton. More than the original offer. They don't have to pay 4 million to Billups next year for doing nothing (or 14 million for actually playing) and instead get a fine PG for only 4 million more next year.

We ride the year out. On the draft night, we package Billups, Turiaf (if he picked up his option), the 2011 pick, cash, and one of Fields and Gallo for CP3 + a bad contract.

Going through the Melo chat here is what stands out:

- Melo's comments about yesterday are to get the Knicks moving and he has no interest in hanging around for a youth movement.

- Adding Melo would secure Donnie's job and put more pressure on D'Antoni because he has to make it work with two prolific scorers.

- Hahn doesn't believe Melo = extension for Walsh or vice-versa but he does think it has something to do with the non-extension.

- Hahn says Felton turns it on when he's mad but otherwise just coasts through games. Also mentions that he isn't a good enough shooter to be leading in FGA.

- Hahn says he thinks Donnie knows he is the "only horse in the race" so he isn't ready to just put all his pieces in the middle and bid against himself.

- Adding to Felton, he feels Felton will be a lot better when he has another consistant scorer so he doesn't need to think about scoring. He feels Felton is the key to the system as in Felton plays well and the team plays well and vice-versa.

- Hahn thinks Amare was calling out Chandler with his playing scared post game comments.

- Hahn feels that at the 11th hour if the Nuggets say add Gallo or Fields to the deal, Walsh will do it and get it done.

- Hahn says it's up to Melo to adjust to D'Antoni's system and if the Olympics are any indication he will be fine.

- Hahn says 90% Melo a knick by Feb 24th.

Adding more as I read through it... -Jitpal

- Hahn says Knicks inquired on Aaron Brooks but Rockets said he wasn't available. His sources say Brooks is available and the Rockets are playing hard to get. Marc Gasol won't be traded. Stephen Curry only available if they get blown away. Hahn doesn't think Granger gets moved despite rumors to the contrary. He says a lot of teams are reluctant to talk or put assets on the table because they want to be involved as the 3rd team in a Melo deal.

- Suggests the Knicks position could be weaker because of the recent losing streak.

- Hahn thinks Gallo is the player added to the deal to get the Melo deal done at the deadline.

- Hahn says the interior defense isn't awful, it's the guards that get owned leading to switches and screens for easy buckets. Hahn says if the guards keep their man in front of them, the interior defense will look a lot better. Also says that when the Knicks want to be, they can be a good rebounding team but it requires a team effort. On both points he mentions effort is the key but they don't do that all game every game.

- Hahn doesn't think the Lakers-Nuggets Bynum/Melo swap deal is real at all because it was denied very quickly.

- Hahn says the Knicks need a backup PG.

- Hahn says he thinks even without Melo the team makes the playoffs because Chandler starts to play again and the east is weak but Amare will be exhausted come playoff time. Meaning it's a first round exit.

- Hahn doesn't think Artest fits this squad but he would have liked him a few years ago.

- Hahn says Chandler looks like he is affected by trade talk.

- Coaching staff loves Jefferies and without his current contract he would be a good fit for the Knicks.

- If Melo is not available in the summer, he think the team goes after Tyson Chandler, DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol. He expects that all will remain with their current team however. He wonders if Crawford would be a good fit to backup PG and SG.

- Doesn't see OJ Mayo being an option for the Knicks.

- He thinks the Knicks could offer a contract to Nene in the off season but Nene looks to want to head to south beach.

- Hahn says Denver management understands that multiple first round draft picks for this year isn't great because of the weak talent but it's a selling point to fans at the press conference.

- Hahn thinks if the Nuggets called the Nets about a Melo deal they would be interested.

- He thinks Fields can be an important contributing member of a championship team because he is smart, prepared and works hard.

- Someone asked about D'Antoni's job security with or without Melo. Hahn somewhat dodged and said there will always be pressure and it comes with the territory.

- Hahn says the Knicks need a knock down 3 point shooter from the SG and an athletic big man to be successful with a Felton/Melo/Amare core. He thinks Mozgov can become the big man but he isn't sure if Fields will be that guy at the 2 but he does admit Fields does other things that are helpful. He says you can assess how the team does with Felton running the show or make a change once Williams and Paul are available.

- Hahn says in the first half Felton looked great and part of the future but now he is going through a Duhon like "swoon" and questions his long term future. He says Billups could run the offense and hit the outside shot. Knicks would lose toughness and defense. He says the Knicks don't want to give up Felton in a Melo deal but if Billups is coming back, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

- Hahn says Melo or no Melo there will be a trade. Expect Randolph to go and for Curry to be traded for a piece that can help now.

- Doesn't think Love would be part of a Melo deal with the T-Wolves being the 3rd team. Hasn't heard Rubio's name in a while.

- Hahn wouldn't mind Harrington back because he can score and be effective off the bench. He doesn't think his contract is that bad but it would severely hurt your chances at getting Paul or Williams.

- Hahn thinks Mozgov is more valuable than Fields because he is a 7-1 mobile, athletic center.

Thats the entire chat, I skipped some questions because they were useless. I paraphrased because I'm not copying it all. Nothing we didn't know. Enjoy. -Jitpal

Rhodey, You are out of your mind if you think it's only about the money.

The Nets would have paid him. And he'd be in NY.

He wants the Knicks, he just needs be quiet.

Saying he would consider Denver's extension if not traded was boneheaded.

But he wants the Knicks.

Not really. Take the draft night deal out. Keep Billups for the whole 2012. Billups/Fields/Melo/Amare/Mozgov with Gallo/TD/Shawne/Turiaf would make some noise in the playoffs.
