Randle almost ISO’d us to death, sucked ass on defense, got into foul trouble, got a tech from the bench, almost turned the ball over in crunch time, tried to fight a laker as soon as the game ended …. But he had a decent stat line and really not a bad game when you consider this is Randle that we are talking about

Uhm, defensive rebounding is part of playing defense.

It is not part of the Randle sucks narrative.

This game entirely turned on the 2-3 zone the Lakers threw at the Knicks. Completely shut down our offense in the second quarter and we had no counter.

Our passing game continues to be weak, and you can't bust zones without crisp passing. Without the passing, we're forced to drive the ball or iso on the perimeter, and it ends up fugly.

Teams are going to keep zoning us until we figure out our passing game.

Going into the boxscore more, Randle had a 31.6 usage rate tonight

Obi had a 125.6 ORTG and 90.7 DRTG, Randle had a 100 ORTG and 101.4 DRTG

It's pretty simple to understand what's happening, when Obi is in the game the guards handle the ball more, and he hustles on defense.

What makes Obi fun to watch is that he's a constant threat because he moves well without the ball. And what I like is he's a pretty good finisher around the basket. His defensive assignment always has to pay attention to him and this leads to collapses and that leads to good opportunities for us.

Randle has ballhandlers so he doesn't have to bring the ball up each time and spend so much energy. Even at the end of the game, he could have passed the ball against the Laker pressure - even when the game was out of reach for them, but he didn't.

Randle brings the ball up too much, that’s the point guards role?. Obi, more power to him, is shooting .167 or something like that from 3 point range. That’s a bozo no no.

A lot of randle hate in here. We do that a lot. Ignore the good while highlighting the bad. Watching Melo get his standing ovation and flowers tonight showed that. We gotta do better.

Our defense has actually been okay for a while, but our offense is struggling again. Fournier playing well helps. We shot 45/44/80 and were still complaining?!

We’ve come a long way. We now have the expectations of a good team; that’s why we behave as if the world is falling when we have a winning record. That’s actually growth.

IQ and Obi are being developed properly. They just got prime time crunch time minutes against the Lakers in a win. 25 and 22 minutes respectively. Thibs likes to play with a true big man. I guess that’s because he wants to take away all shots at the rim. That plus taking away the three is the key to good defense in this era. Once the playoffs hit start and we start seeing the midrange monsters is when you have to adjust.

I really like Obi’s game. In a vacuum I like Fournier’s game too, but using per 36 numbers to judge players has always been faulty. There’s a reason those players don’t play 36 minutes. There’s a reason Randles numbers look different/worse than obi’s in limited minutes. Teams don’t play him like they do Randle. Randle went toe to toe with Anthony fcuking Davis and held his own. Yeah his holding of the ball sucks, just like his first season, but Thibs will fix that, like he did last year. Let’s give our coaching staff time to work. They’re grinders, so the answers will eventually come with tinkering.

I think our defense could take another leap with the help of a REAL small forward. I want RJ back at his natural spot at SG and Fournier in an IQ microwave spot off the bench. There’s nothing wrong with Rose/IQ/Fournier/Burks bench. A case could be made any of them should start, all the hallmarks of a great bench.

20/16/5 is NOT nothing. ESPECIALLY against an AD/Howard/Jordan front line. Melo has been playing well also, so him shooting 3/14 isn’t some throwback. There were multiple times our defense affected his play.

RJ had a bad stretch early last year also. He’ll pick it up when his shooting comes back.
