I find it odd as well

It can't be announced until the end. Otherwise, he could end up costing us cap space.

It can't be signed till the end. It can be announced any time

No. Pen to paper doesn’t happen until 7/6. That’s when things become official - all deals including Brunson and Hartenstein. They can and should announce it now and it becomes official after - which won’t cost us space.

Seems like Brunson/Hartenstein/Mitch/5.4 exception is all we will be doing this summer. At the moment. I don't like the balance of the roster again. Hopefully the minutes distribution isn't the same as last year.

Brunson/RJ/Evan/Randle/Mitch(?)
Rose/Obi/Hartenstein

That's the primary rotation.

Grimes/IQ/Cam will battle for minutes. Obi will be behind Julius still. I don't care who else is on the roster because they won't get any minutes anyway...unless it's TAJ  McBride/Sims/Rookies will be in Westchester getting minutes.

It's better than last year on paper. Yay. A week from summer league. After that the dog days of summer arrive.

Maybe something else happens as a team needed in a deal for one of the big guns. Other than that...not much odds things change from where we are now.

Kemba/Burks/Noel out
Brunson/Hartenstein in

Not very impressed at all honestly. I really hope Brunson becomes an all star.

I think we're done for the night. The signing is not official, there still a S&T between Dallas and New York. Those trades during draft time still not official. Those trades might get bigger.

If Bobby Portis is getting 4 years 49 million... who could very well be the Bucks starting center... why the fck are the Knicks looking to pay Mitch Rob 4 years 60 million?

If it’s just Brunson & Hartenstein then I’m unmoved. Y’all can spin this schit as some monumental offseason moves if you want to. It’s lateral if you ask me.

This is a FACT. Brunson is a guy you sign to complement your top guns, the problem is we don't have any top guns. This FO is trying to build a team without having a center piece.

So, what should the front office do... nothing????

We had a strong need for a starting PG. We got one.

He's a good player and is obviously an upgrade at the position but this team is locking them self into big deals without a star player. This current roster + Bunson is still buns. We needed to shed the vets and let the kids rock and build through the draft, something we should have done 20 years ago

If we end up giving Mitch a 4 year deal with more than 10m AAV, he will be Leon Rose's Joakim Noah.

Sorry but IQ has graduated. Hes a plus defender & can do multiple things on offense. He needs to be penciled in for 25mpg.

Y'all forget we still got Thibs? Offense will still run through Randle. What's the excitement of getting a PG when he won't be doing PG things.

People have been complaining for months how Rose didn't order Thibs to lose games and tank so apparently the FO can force the coach who to play and how long... at least that's what people are saying.

I'm sure that applies to forcing Thibs to give the ball to Brunson, you know, the 'this is the family Tommy, you don't want to go against the family' deal he can't refuse.

Under Thibs the Knicks have been #3 and #5 in the league in PnR possessions.

So it seems that's how Thibs wants to play. We finally have a PG who is actually good at it.

Disagree on a couple things.

First and foremost Leon will be under pressure to make a big trade, either Randle or RJ, before the deadline or possibly before the start of the season.

Then there’s DRose, who hasn’t stayed healthy for many years now and shows no indication of being a consistently reliable contributor next season. IQ will have a lot of opportunity and could very well surpass Rose for the brief stints he’s healthy.

Lastly, it seems clear that either Fournier or Grimes will also get dealt. Given Brunson’s size limitations, I don’t think it’ll take much for Tom to start cutting into Fournier’s minutes in favor of Grimes’ superior defense.

I don’t see Reddish having a spot on this team unless we deal RJ. And I also still don’t understand how any team featuring Randle, RJ, and Mitch can possibly succeed on offense since all three require an open lane to be effective.

Our best hope isn’t Brunson. Our best hope is still that the 22 year old takes a massive leap in his development and is able to overcome the hindrance of playing alongside Randle.

We gotta find Randle a new home… whether that’s Portland or LAL or Charlotte… there’s plenty of teams that could utilize his services and give us cap relief and more.

Yep.

Brunson is a solid move that improves the roster but it solves none of the pre-existing problems besides the hole at PG.

Brunson for 25 per and Hartenstein for 8 per is really good value.
Like our offseason so far.

I think there are some whale salaries looking to get moved in KD, Kyrie, and potentially Ayton. Knowing the Knicks FO for who they are, they are probably looking for an opportunity to get some assets back for helping those players move to another team. They are probably also looking to move Fournier and get something back.

Just trying to wrap my head around being so anxious to draft Obi 3 years ago only to have him seemingly ride the bench for 3 szns of his career…

This could very well be true. Thibs is one stubborn old fool. However, Brunson has a lot of juice in MSG now. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a civil war within the organization, culminating with Thibs head on a pike halfway through the season.
