We’re talking about a guy who averages 9.5 PPG and 4.5 APG on 46/33 splits for his career but in 29 playoff games (large sample) he’s become 15-5.5-3 player on an utterly absurd 55-50-80 splits.
Unfortunately we've noticed it two years in row

After seeing these dudes play, especially soft ass KAT, I’m ready to give Brunson the ball the whole game.
That’s why I be saying idgaf if we iso Brunson the whole time. It ain’t like them other dudes want the ball anyways.
Definitely true which is why late in games he’s so turnover prone. Teams realize Brunson is the only person that can actually dribble a ball so they pressure him and his teammates never come get it.
Iron Mantis wrote:Let me get this right. KAT at the 5 got us the best record we've seen in decades. We dethroned the NBA champs. Got to the ECF for the first time in decades...and he's consistently been a net positive this season, and had the best All Star, All-NBA season of his career.
But because the Pacers pulled off a miracle in game 1, and we lost a very close game 2... somehow haters are high-fiving each other saying "I told you so" that KAT can't play the 5 and must be traded for the Knicks to compete??? Sad to see fans of other teams on our board actively rooting against our Knicks.
Anyway...For starters, Thibs has to try putting Deuce or Mitch in the starting lineup and let Josh be energy bench guy he's supposed to be. Deuce let's the Knicks play true 5 out with much tighter perimeter defense....while Mitch adds vertical spacing, all-around elite defense, and rebounding.
Fix the player combinations to put everyone in the best position to succeed, and take it from there.
I feel like matchups matter more than anything. In the Boston series they couldn’t exploit Towns in the way they thought they could bc Knicks would just switch instead of using drop coverage and Towns held his own in isolation. Against the Pacers they can exploit him better on switches bc their best player is a guard who is much quicker than Towns is.
I do want to speak in defense of towns tho. He had an excellent game 1 and he was good 95% of that game and while he made some defensive mishaps, that game was ultimately stolen from the Knicks. It’s unfair to paint this series as if he’s been a total negative when his impact game 1 99% of the time results in a win.

Taking constructive criticism and blowing it out of proportion. Then condemning those of us who try to hold the highest paid player accountable.
We actually want kat to be his best self instead of enabling him.

As this post made no sense to me since Kat is not a traditional big and more of a guard in a 4’s body. Don’t know why. It grinded my gears in the early morning hours lmao
what guard is averaging 12 rebounds a game. Kat is a all nba third team center.
Bleacher Report put out this mashup of the IND Comebacks in each series. Some things that stick out in each one is
- the other team is still able to make baskets during those runs. It’s not that they went completely cold. IND just keeps running their offense after the make instead of settling for step back Hail Mary 3s - missed free throws by the other team - bad turnovers on inbound plays
The margins are so razor thin but they don’t happen w/o help from the other team. So if today’s game is close, we must keep running our offense even as they’re coming b/c they we can make baskets against them, we must make our free throws & we must be able to inbound the ball under pressure. It’s basic stuff that other teams don’t execute that makes all the difference.
when brunson plays with mitch it feels like he's at home. anybody notice that? mitch covers brunson with offensive rebounds and covers kat on the other end. i'm not one who would underestimate the impact of swapping him in for hart if that's really happening

The last KFTV post game I think it was JD who said it’s not that he hates Thibs b/c if anyone deserves to win a chip, it’s Thibs for all the hard work he puts in. No one can deny that this man’s dedication.
But if he’s not making the right choices, we’re left having to decide if he can adjust (he’s done that more this postseason than I expected) and if those adjustments lead to Ws

You need to hide KAT and JB on defense. Only way to do that is to have the other 3 guys on the floor be solid defenders. This starting lineup change is much needed and it might just be what we need to jump start our run to the finals.
I love how some on this board want to blame Towns for being 0-2 to the Pacers. Maybe Brunson the best guard since Clyde Frasier didn't turn the ball over 7 times and OG who was a disaster on offense and defense played better we could have won game 1.

the towns stuff is just one piece of the starting 5 being a bad fit all together. pinning it all on him isn't quite right - og suffers from that lineup too, and mikal only started to fit in a little bit in the postseason. you would've hoped these guys would've bought in to each other completely and figured it out, but if they can't, then it's on the coach to make the adjustment. hope we see that tonight

He’s not a center in the traditional sense, he’s a floor spacing big, with weak defense. You can’t make him guard the paint alone and serve as the only big on the court. He needs to be PAIRED with…. You know what, never mind man never mind
