Around the same time I fell in love with the Ewing/Stark Knicks I started collecting the Jim Lee X-Men just before he jumped to form Image. It'll be my first time attending NYCC this year.

Those were the good days  Jim Lee drawing X-Men was like the pinnacle of the 90s comics era.

Enjoy NYCC, it's always fun to see the cosplayers and how happy people are coming together over shared interests.

Two things I recommend checking out while you're there: the new Ultimate Comics line by Marvel, their new Spider-Man comic is crazy good.

It takes place in another universe featuring a grown up Peter Parker who doesn't get his powers until he's married with kids. Best Spider-Man comics I've read in decades.

And on the DC side, anything with Dan Mora's artwork i suggest picking up. Mora is the Jim Lee of the post modern era of comics.

I pick up comics from my LCS each week and the Ultimate Universe is in my pullbox. It's probably the best I've read from Marvel in years, even better than the Hickman X-Men relaunch.

Love Dan Mora, I've been collecting his Absolute Power: Task Force 7 foil covers

Speaking of, I'm excited about the Absolute Universe launching next month

The Visual Style of it. The Combat. The World they are in. The dialogue. I feel like Persona 5 was more of a Kiddie Game vs this is clearly written more for adults.

Its like they took everything they learned from Persona and Morphed it into this.

There was mad things I liked about Persona 5, but I stopped play after like 30 something hrs. I just got tired of the forced social stuff and the dialogue wore thin to me.

Plus the Main Character has a voice instead of the silent MC from Persona. That Brings alot to it.

Its made by the people who created Persona, but seems to be their magnum Opus. Im confident anyone who played Persona will love this.

But the Visual Style is just so amazing. Atlus has the best UI in the business by far. Again, I stopped playing the demo cause I loved it so much and wanted the full meal.

What's your opinion on the Absolute Batman stuff? It looks kinda weird but I want to give it a chance. It definitely is a new spin on the character. Absolute Superman and Wonder Woman look interesting too.

Ultimate Universe 2024 could be laying the groundwork for the next evolution of Marvel. All the comics are interesting but Spider-Man, The Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men have really kept me engaged, I gotta finish catching up on Black Panther.

I love the thought and world building that Hickman has put into this and how in turn his vision allowed the other creators to take the prompts and run wild with it.

Ultimate X-Men is a legit monthly full color manga by Marvel, I never thought I'd see the day. Peach Momoko is an amazing artist and her writing has been really fun to read. I want Storm and Maystorm to team up so badly.

If I'm Disney, I'm letting Hickman and co cook this to perfection because i would love to see this become live action one day. The issue of USM where Peter's daughter became the reason why he wears the red and blue costume...that absolutely made my day. Based on the sales, I think fans want to see Spider-Man as a Dad and not being a perpetual 26 year old like he's been since the 90s.

Can't wait for the City to open up. The Maker is my favorite Marvel villain next to Dr. Doom. I have a feeling next years books are gonna be wild

Ok the fact that the Main character actually has a voice and personality is a huge difference.

I agree, Batman's biceps are twice the size as anyone else's and the logo just looks plain goofy, lol. I'll be picking up the Jim Lee covers and will give it a chance.

I'm reading them all just to see where and how it all connects but I agree, Spidey is the best.

MrDollarBills wrote:I love the thought and world building that Hickman has put into this and how in turn his vision allowed the other creators to take the prompts and run wild with it.

I think Hickman had a broader plan for Krakoa. The end of the era actually felt rushed to me. I would be curious to how it would all play out had he stayed to flesh it out as he wanted to

I agree and before this I've only ever read one actual manga (Attack on Titan). Peach's work definitely stands out among everything else in the comic's world.

+1 to this. There have been so many heart warming moments in this series so far.

I was at the Baltimore Comic Con last weekend and sat in the X-Men panel. They were saying there were some things they would never change at Marvel and as writers they have to live with it. One example they brought up was Daredevil. He will always be blind for the foreseeable future. Another was Spidey.. they have no plans to have him get married. I was sitting there like "but.. USM... best version of Spidey yet..." I hope they take the sales to heart and make it happen.

I'm new to The Maker so it's been fun getting to know him through these books. I'm actually excited about RDJ playing Doom in the MCU.

Ultimate Spider-Man is outselling the regular Spider-Man books by quite a bit. Fans don't want that stale garbage. Peter as a Dad has been the best stuff in years.

There is no rule that says you can't age up a character. The character started out in high school, went to college, graduated, got married and after that they decided to undo the marriage and make Peter perpetually 26 years old and miserable. Nothing memorable has come out of it since outside of the SpiderVerse comics that led to the movies. It's boring.

Marvel really dropped the ball with Krakoa. That run was the first X-Men comics I read monthly in ages.

Exactly.. hopefully those editors realize where the money is coming from and go with it.

They should have given Hickman whatever he wanted to finish out Krakoa the way he intended it. I stopped collecting for nearly 2 decades before getting back into it with that relaunch.

Same! Hickman brought me into X-Men and then again for Ultimate Comics.

They need to pay him whatever he wants to finish these stories because they are all big hits. The guy is a GOAT writer and you just know Disney will be using his work for Secret Wars and X-Men

Also same. Hickman was the reason I was interested in the Ultimate Universe in the first place.

On the DC side I'm into Chip Zdarsky. His Batman: The Knight series has been my fave read over there in years.

Can't even watch anything these days cause some ********ers on this forum recommended Peaky Blinders to me, and now I'm on season 5. Great show though. So much acting talent.

Return to New York Knicks
