I like Mikal, I think hes going to be a very solid player and will be very valuable on a winning team. The problem is that knick fans are going to want whoever they pick at #9 to come in and be a star, i dont think Mikal has star potential, just a really good 3 and D guy. He will help us no doubt, but I am not sure its the right pick

This is an extreme example, but would Giannis's stock be worse at 21 than it was at 18? No, because he showed marked improvement from year to yearmpharris36 wrote:Tron Carter wrote:spree8 wrote:Looks like ESPN’s analytics has Mikal as the 5th best overall, highest potential steel, and 2nd highest All Star chances. sounds like a low upside, finished product to me
people get to wrapped up in age...if the kid can ball what 21 year old has peaked his potential?
if we stay at 9 mikal should be the pick.
Not saying Mikal is Giannis, just for y'all that wanna jump me on that

Would Memphis agree to this?
Parsons and #4 for Burke, LMFT & Lee #36 and unprotected 2019 1st rounder and 2020 1st rounder pick swap rights?
It's risky as we could be garbage again next year, but if we have #4 and #9 this year, we could be looking at Bamba/Mikail or if we're really lucky Doncic/Anyone at 9 because who gives a ****, Doncic is a generational talent being overlooked because he's European. Personally, I"d only do it if Doncic is available. Bamba doesn't move the needle for me like Doncic.
Seriously though, a team with Frank/Mikail/KP and Bamba would be insane on the defensive end.

I cant see any way we get 4 without giving up 9 and frank. Its a strong draft so #4 has alot of value

On the other end just because someone is 18 or 19, it doesn’t guarantee they will improve a lot either. There have been many top HS recruits that come into the NBA at a young age, struggle and never really improve a ton.

People know I'm no Mikal fan, I think he'll be a very pedestrian low level NBA starter at best but if he's the pick...I'll root like hell for him to prove me wrong. Let's go KNICKS!

It doesn't matter who or what the fans want. That's how you get in trouble and management wouldn't be doing the job they were hired to do if they let fan influence seep in.
Management needs to identify the player that would help this franchise the most at the 9 spot and pick him. It seems like they have put exhaustive work in during the process. Just pick the player at the top of the board.

yes obviously, but after all this is a message board for fans and the only place where we can have a say of what we want. If they feel Mikal is the best pick at 9, then great I will root for him to succeed. I just feel he isnt a game changer like some of the other players that could be available are

Amazed if we give up BOTH Frank and 9 AND take on a 50 million sunk cost of a contract. This is a deep draft and the value at 9 is not stratospherically different than 4.
